I have one of these laptops.
Its been fine for me over a year.
Not sure about a smart phone though when in public.
I would still find use for one as a spare though.

Its a Mediatek 6582 chip so reliable but not cutting edge, it would seem to be dual sim.

Android 4.4, yes appears to be dual sim. Also seems to be sold under other brand names Op3n for example.
Could be a good buy for some.

But with 3 years warranty included in the price it looks a fantastic offer.

You may even say the actual phone is worth probably worth less than £50. The warranty is probably accounts for £30 of the cost.

Aldi stores will probably be mobbed full of people wanting to buy a smartphone at a budget cost on Thursday.

Does anybody know what sort of time these Aldi Special buys run out of stock, if they do?

Think about it. £79.99 for the smartphone, and pop your 3 PAYG sim in and buy the All In One 15 add-on with AYCE data. No need to take out any warranty. It seems wonderful.

3 year warranty on this phone is pointless will be worth pennies to replace by then. All decent brand androids come with 2 year warranty.

Anyone choosing this say over a moto g will be making a mistake.

Might seem relevant if not for the fact that Aldi will often just offer a refund and not repair. So £79.99 is still worth £79.99 in 30 months (minus inflation, of course).

Probably not i suspect but any way the purpose being to have the best phone for the money this isn't.

This is very much like the Moto E and OK value with the warranty.

Mediatek is interesting. Ages ago I tried to work out the reason why my Dapeng Mediatek phone has the greatest GPS of any phone I have ever had.
The closest I got to deducing is that Mediatek became a world leader in GPS technology a few years ago, releasing a standalone product far better than the old reliable Sirf 3.

So if Qualcomm bung everything in dirt cheap, are Mediatek just dirt cheap with a fantastic real GPS ?

They have the res wrong.

It's qHD which is Quarter HD, not Quad HD...

Quad HD sounds better and they give the resolution, so real harm done. (and no one uses Quad HD for 4K)

Its funny how things stick. 4K stuck because marketing wise it is 4 times 1080p (2K)
So 4K you naturally think 4 times, which is correct too, even though 4K technically describes a near 4000 pixel width.

Ain't 4K something like 2160p ? I forget.

Also like my current phone, it doesn't do 800mhz and with Three possibly going with 800mhz, some like me will lose out.

Not quite.

With 4k it transition from using the vertical resolution to the horizontal.

Gone from full HD 1080p, instead of being FULLER HD 2160p it's 4k or for 4000 horizontal pixels (not quite, but with some standards it's 4000).

It's not 4G anyway, so I wouldn't worry about that.

2K is never used to describe 1080HD though.
It's generally used for resolutions about 2048x1536. I've also heard it used to describe QHD (not qHD) resolutions as well.

The whole thing is pretty ridiculous, no foresight at all.

1080p was fine for 2K but 4K slips in so well mathematically and off the tongue it was a natural.

The 2K thing was made to look daft when 4K came, but hey they decided to use the term 2K for the iPad so who are we to argue a technical point ?

Verbally, I use 2K+ for the iPad. At least it fits in with me.

Smash the screen and the warranty is gone

Try buying a screen for them you will find its as costly as the phone

these phones good for your gran or kids and are like Andrex tissuse

if you want a cheap andriod check out this ebay item number 201239605243

Jump on top of it 3 times and it is certainly worth absolutely zero like any other phone costing from £20 to £750.
So what, this is a decent cheap phone.

If there is a ridge for the screen it might be a good 5 times more drop friendly than a smooth format non ridge phone.
So do you suggest banning grans and kids from certain phones ?
