Right okay that is where we agree to disagree. I like the song but Bruno Mars could pretty much release anything these days and it would shoot straight to Number One just because of his name being attatched. Bruno Mars has earned his spot and would be at Number One off his own volition.

Although if you feel Fleur is part of the reason Uptown Funk got to Number 1, does that mean that if Ben beats Uptown Funk then its like Ben beating Fleur again

That is tongue in cheek but you know Bruno Mars > Ben Haenow > Fleur East

Isn't this Ronson's 1st UK number one? The fact that Fleur performed it and the public showing overwhelming support for her version first proves that she had an impact. But I guess we can also agree to disagree.

The most important chart battle of the year is well underway. 2014 X Factor winner Ben Haenow has increased his lead by a further 10,000 copies, helped by the release of the physical version of Something I Need.

Something I Need has racked up sales of over 107,000 at this midweek stage, with all proceeds being donated to the Together For Short Lives charity. The song is just over 33,000 copies ahead of Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk.

Really like ben. It looks like he is pulling further and further ahead in the battle with mark ronson.

Hope he gets number 1 with massive sales. He deserves it.

You're right. I'm fairly certain no-ones ever had a number one before without the involvement of St Fleur.

For Ronson yes, but I think he knew he would get Number 1 becasuse of Bruno Mars. Bruno Mars is the biggest name he has worked with. Bruno has 4 Number 1's in the US and 3 in the UK for singles.

Ronson has been Number 2 before but I think the Bruno Mars card trumps the Mark Ronson card. Most people will attribute that song to Bruno before they do Ronson.

That was never stated but okay.

Bruno Mars is a huge name and the song is amazing. However, it shot straight to number one for a reason. It was riding the high of Fleur's performance. Sure it may have made it their on its own, but one of the reasons it shot straight to the top is because Fleur did an amazing job of presenting it to the public. To discredit any impact she's had seems highly unfair.

But again I guess we can agree to disagree.

Its not a shot at Fleur, she did great in the show and I wish her the best but I don't see how its unfair because the credit isn't hers.

She didn't write the song.
She didn't produce the song.
She's not the original artist.

Shes no different than someone doing a cover on Yotube. Actually the only difference is Simon Cowell threw a lot of money at production and put it prime time viewing on a Saturday Night.

People were already buzzing about Ronson & Bruno doing a collaberation together in the new year. It already had hype. Fleur did a good cover version but hands down No, I don't think it had any impact on how the song has performed.

If it was a song done by a lesser known artist then potentially but Mars is probably one of the biggest names in the industry right now and with good reason.

But like you said agree to disagree

I think those of us who had heard the song way before Fleur performed it would have bet money on it being number one.
All that has happened is that it's got to number one a few weeks earlier than it would have done anyway.

I actually said when it was performed that I bet Cowell would claim the credit for the songs success when, in fact, it would have been a success without XF as it's a damn good pop song and it p*sses me off tbh that some will always put the success down to Mr Smug

Completely agree

Its also annoying how some people seem to think that nobody heard this song before Fleur brought it to peoples attention. The song wasn't hidden away, it just didn't have a commercial chart release.

I on a personal level have no doubt that it would have globally been one of the best selling songs of next year with or without X Factor. If anything I think forcing it into a Christmas Number 1 battle gives it more initial competition with charity songs which may take away from it.

The song plays off both Bruno Mars & Mark Ronson's strengths...great song but they are the ones who deserve absolutely all of the credit.

Any chance of a RATM esque Christmas number one this year?

It's looking a bit closer now, Ben has sold approximately 17434 in the last 24 hours, compared to Mark & Bruno on 14627. Uptown Funk is now on 0.8390 on the ITunes Popularity Bars. It will depend a lot on how many physicals Ben sells.

No chance now. The RATM campaign started pretty much in the early hours of the Sunday morning and it lasted throughout the week.

A campaign starting today would be relying on just 3 days to accumulate a massive amount of sales. It's not impossible but it isn't going to happen.

From memory didn't Dominic the Donkey climb from nowhere to number 3 on the Christmas Chart in Little Mix's year, just based on sales on Friday and Saturday after Chris Moyles encouraged people to try and make it Christmas Number One. So their could be a RATM campaign at the last minute, but it looks very unlikely that anything could sell enough to challenge the current top two.

Sales have been crap for over a decade & unless something exciting happens in music it will never get back to how it once was.The original band aid single shifted 3 million singles and that was at a time when people had to go to a record store to purchase a copy now you can pick up a copy at a supermarket and still sales are way down.”

I did acknowledge this too but its widely considered that singles sales are atleast showing sime signs of recovery with more songs having to sell over 100k. You're right sales will never get back to those huge numbers but atleast singles are on an upward trajectory, no doubt thanks to streaming giving them a bit of boost, they've slowly climbed away from the abysmal 30k average atleast. Its album sales that are fast on the decline and of more concern with some truly dreadful weekly sales this year.

I'm with the people that believe Fleur gave a big boost to Uptown Funk, XF has always been a good platform to introduce songs to the masses and i have no doubt Fleur did exactly that with Uptown Funk, lots of XF viewers wait to be told what to buy judging by the way songs that have been out a while suddenly shoot back up once on XF.

However as someone who heard Uptown Funk in early November i have no doubt it was going to be a huge number 1 anyway. With some songs you just get a feel they're going to be huge and from the first listen i knew UF had IT. The way the exposed masses have reacted to it buying first Fleurs version and then Ronsons is testament to that. Its just THAT good a song. Their performance on The Voice US Final was spectacular.
