I like every song except for Bitch, I'm Madonna which is kind of a novelty song and not meant to be taken seriously. There's a lot of acoustic guitars. Some of it reminds me of American Life. There are some sad orchestral based ballads. I was expecting more dance. The only real dance ones are Living for Love, Illuminati, Wash All Over Me and Borrowed Time. As an album especially as one she tours with including dancers it might need more uptempo dance stuff, but it's great to listen to at home. It seems very personal and introspective and real.

There's a surprising small amount of dance. There's a lot of more mature ballad and acoustic guitar stuff and even one rock leaning track. It's like she heard people screaming she should do more mature stuff. I don't know what type of radio you listen to but most songs on the radio tend to be electro pop and dance leaning. In fact, if I had one criticism it could use more uptempo dance stuff to make it more Madonna. People say she can't sing, but I find the vocals fantastic.

I agree about there being so little dance music. I wasn't sure what to expect from Avicii anyway as his sound is quite diverse but these songs are mainly slower tempo. I count only 4 dance/pop types. So it will be interesting to see how difference the finished project is. Wash All Over Me and (Addicted) The One That Got Away - which sounds pure ABBA are the main dance tracks here although Wash All Over Me would sound much better as a slower tempo track as well if they reworked it.

I would say this sounds more American Life meets Erotica than it does MDNA or Hard Candy. Which is no bad thing really as she needed another retrospective album like this.

As far as lyrics go she is back to her very best.

Now, I probably am in the minority among most Madonna fans in that I don't get so excited and want all the "mature" stuff like a lot of fans seem to. I happen to really like MDNA and Hard Candy. I love American LIfe too though. But I do think there perhaps in these demos are a few too many acoustic/ballad type of things. I really like them all but I think there needs to be more balance. There are some rumoured demos that haven't leaked so maybe on the final album there will be more dance things. As far as touring in the larger venues, I think more uptempo things work better. Too many ballads and acoustic tends to bring a concert to a halt even though the songs themselves may be good. Unless she is planning to do more of her older hits on the next tour and have them take up the uptempo spots. But usually she likes to do most of the new album.

Addicted which I love has kind of a rock feel to it more than dance. It almost has a 90's alternative Hole or Garbage feel to it. There's a lot of guitar on it. Now the final versions may be different. I know that a lot of times she writes songs on guitar and so the original demos may have more guitar on them. But then in the final versions they are redone to make them more dance and electronic. So we might not be able to tell how the final product will sound from these demos.

Now, I wasn't gonna listed but I did. Only to a bit of a few songs though.

I have to say, I'm impressed. These songs sound like Madonna songs, in a way that MDNA (and to a certain extent) Hard Candy didn't. They sound like they've got Madonna's touch all over them.

If these are just rough demos, it's made me very excited for the album, and to be honest, I wasn't that excited before as I was expecting MDNA mk II.

So about only half of these will be on the album in their finished versions, hoping for fully mastered and produced versions of Illuminati, Addicted, Borrowed Time, Living for Love, Rebel Heart and Wash All Over Me.
But so far, very impressed, all these songs feel like they actually have substance, I feel like her past couple of albums felt more superficial in places, but these demo's have me very excited for what is to come. An excellent Christmas present for me lol.

Totally agree! A great Christmas present for me. The only song you mentioned I'm not crazy about is Borrowed Time. I could do without that and replace it with Heartbeat City.

Where are people listening to these demos?

Almost everyone listening will still buy the album anyway.

I've listened to it three times now and most of them only need minor tweaking which could actually just be down to how the songs were recorded by the 'leaker' so I'm not convinced they are all demos in hindsight. I'd be very intrigued to also hear which songs aren't making the final album, if any, because all of these are very good tracks so it will be a big shame to see some of them discarded. Without a doubt this is her best work in a decade and a fine return to form.

I think what these songs highlight as well is just how little input Madonna had in MDNA. These songs have Madonna written all over them. Her writing style has always been very distinctive. You can feel that here.

Well I heard everyone of them and I have to say as a Madonna fan since her introduction, I'm really really disappointed. So I say the following with a heavy heart

It is very clear that Rebel Heart is by far the best song on the album, in fact I'd nearly go as far to say it is the ONLY single on it. I do like Wash Over Me, but it's not a single.

As for the rest...well where to start. Bitch I'm Madonna is awful...perhaps one of the worst things she's done. Then there are about 4 or 5 acoustic songs that just roll into each other like Messiah, Joan of Arc.....They all sound like American Life demos that didn't make the cut for THAT album.

The 2 other rumoured choics for Lead off single are also massive disappointments imo. Living for Love sounds like a rework of Deeper and Deeper and thus terribly dated. SO much for using these hot new producers. Unapologetic Bitch has a regae, ska feel to it and would be an edgy choice for first single......but it sounds forced, contrived and I didn't like the Meldoy. It reminds me a bit of that Rude song...which is what they were probably going for. Yes, I am aware that RUDE was a big hit...but not feeling it here.

Then there are some which are just plain bad....the illuminati song with all the references to celebrities is just awful...awfull. Vogue weeps for this crap.

I think the biggets thing I took away from this is yes, they are demos..but what the F have these producers actually been producing?? There is NO new sound here..nothing. Why is she paying them all this money? 90% of the songs would need massive reworks..

The lyrics are more mature than we are used to her recently..But overall I came with a real sense of disappointment. I also don't understand HOW this happens..how does this stuff get leaked???

I'll sum it up succintctly. There is no ballad here that sounds as commercial, moving or as Fresh as Live to Tell. Sad times when a 30 year old song sounds newer than your latest stuff.

The lyrics are up there with the best!

We don't know how they will turn out. Im overly impressed.

Wish I could edit my post..I've had a change of heart on some of the songs. Rebel Heart is still the best though imo.

I hope these are just demos as there isn't a single hit amongst them.

She's never going to have a hit again, that's the way the charts work now. The only possible way she could have a 'freak accident' one was if it was tied into some event of major public consciousness, like the Olympics or something to do with the Queen or something.

Eh? I reckon there is every chance she will have a hit again....if anything its easier with downloads. The only thing that will hinder her is lack fo radio play since radio can legally discriminate cos of her age.

US radio have been a bit funny with Madge since American Life. You never knew how her songs are going to chart anyway. Hung Up and 4 Minutes did incredibly well but would of done even better and charted higher if it wasn't for some radio stations still having an issue with her.

Really enjoying this album. Especially for an unfinished product.

Some songs are predictable dance madonna songs, but they are well produced and catchy.

There is something much more accessible to this album then perhaps MDNA and Hard Candy were.

If marketed right there are several songs on this that could be hits for her.

However the rumour was that the albums reggae song would be the lead single, well that's Unapologetic Bitch which limits the songs radio play consistently as I don't think 'bitch' is allowed to be said on the radio.

I might get shot for this but I don't really care...no true fan of Madonna would be listening to this album at the moment, they would wait for an official release.

I understand she was upset the demos were stolen and she feels violated this was put out there because she was ready so I sympathize to a certain extent. But at the same time most people who are big enough fans to seek these songs out are going to buy the official version when it's released so it's not like she's really losing that much money. I've never been a believer in saying a true fan wouldn't do this or do that. There are different kinds of fans. And some of these songs aren't going to be on the final album so some of these songs otherwise I would never have gotten to chance to hear. I just love her music and her voice so much I just couldn't resist listening!
With illegal downloading, the way I deal with it is this. I do illegally download but if I really love something I will go out and buy it when it's officially released. If I download something illegally and I hate it, I usually just delete it because I do feel guilty about getting something for free and keeping it forever.
