recently, my cats decided they would no longer eat dry food. So I've switched to wet food but I find it messier, smellier and considerably more expensive.

Is anyone aware of a "moist" cat food?
One that looks and stores like a kibble but is softer in texture?

Does anyone have any experience of adding water / cat milk to a normal dried food?

There used to be an advert years ago for a moist cat biscuit, but for the life of me I can't recall it!

Best try searching under moist or semi-moist cat food or kibble.
These sort of threads are all very well, but people often come up with the most obscure brands - best to search around your local supermarkets and pet shops. You may have some large pet food discounters near you or a rival to "pets at home".

Go to your local animal food store & buy a bag of pasta
When you have cooked it, drain off excess water.
Then add beef or chicken stock using a stock cube.Our cats/kittens love it.

That's an interesting idea, I might give that a go.


I did go to my local PetsatHome and they weren't really all that helpful. I did see and buy a bag of the Hi-Life cat food but it only comes in tiny bags :/ my three would go through a bag a day.

Really, I was looking for people experiences with this type of food rather than recommendations my original post wasn't really all that clear.

It could be that your cats have just gone off your normal brand. My girl regularly decides she's fed up with what I give her and refuses to eat. Hence I now cycle through several different brands. She's not quite so bad with the dry food though - purina optirenal chicken has been a favourite since I adopted her. I can mix in cheaper stuff too and she doesn't mind
As I posted above there was once a moist food widely advertised, but I think its not that popular as cats like to crunch on dry biscuits (reminds them of bones?) or lick up the gravy/jelly in wet food.
I quite often give my girl microwaved cheap frozen fish, tuna in water or cooked cheap frozen chicken too.

All three had one mouthful of the Hi-Life stuff and then gave me a look of disdain the likes of which would have shriveled a lesser man!

Wet food it is then I'll give them the dried stuff a couple of times a week and leave it at that.

Quite frankly, for creatures that are quite happy to sit and lick their arses they are incredibly fussy about food



Mine won't eat fish. They wont eat the fish flavoured wet foods even, they love ham and cheese, wolf down chips and will lick most crisps into submission.

Maybe I'm being dopey, but I have no idea what 'moist' cat food is.

As far as I know cat food comes in bags or boxes (dry), sachets, foils or tins (not dry)

The Beast only has dry food when we go away, he eats enough to 'survive' then kicks the rest around the kitchen to make a point.

He will not entertain tinned food, nope, nada, no way, it 'aint 'appening bro

As far as proper cat food goes, he has sachets; prefers the fish flavours. But he periodically decides he doesn't like them anymore and will sniff and leave. I generally counter this by switching brands, which usually works.

Other than the above, he has a bit of a grubby pallet and will eat allsorts; homemade meatballs, Morissons value sausages, pepperoni off the top of a pizza.

He is rather partial to Stilton Cheese.

OP I think maybe the moggies are a bit bored of what they are being given, and are just wanting a bit of variety.
