a new way of deciding the winner?
big brother 9
17-12-2014
Does anyone think we need a new way of deciding the winner of next year's show?
Simon has mentioned that the show will be changing next year and won't be the same show as we know it .

How would you like to see the winner chosen?

For me it would be the following.

Have a normal vote until the final week. After the semi final both acts could release their winners single at the same time, and after 1 week of the singles being released the person who sells the most copies wins the x factor and a million pound recording contract.

What do you think?

Not a bad idea but with chart updates and iTunes chart,it would become a bit predictable who would win..

Agreed

Its absolutely an interesting idea but the winner actually would be a foregone conclusion. People thought it was closer with Ben & Fleur and were surprised when it wasn't that close. If people had the chance to compare previous weeks ITunes performances then it would be much easier to determine who would win because ITunes positions are much more transparent.

Besides I doubt X Factor would do that because then it wouldn't really be a "Winners" single, the whole thing that Simon likes is that the winner of each year gets to go for Christmas number one. Sure it doubles the chances in the chart...but it would split the sales between fans who were fans of more than one of the finalists.

It would also move it before the Christmas Number One battle because the song would be released usually the first weekend in December if this was the case

It could very easily be manipulated by TPB!

Open to fiddling I'm afraid

But then so is the current process!

Yes I think so too,
I have always thought that they should give the winner a significant cash prize in which they can invest in their career, with no obligation to be signed to particular record label.ie syco.
It has it's problems of course, but it might be a fairer way of acknowledging the winner.

If only! It would cut out the manipulation and we'd end up with genuine winners.
Problem is the show is not about the contestants it's about SYCO marketing its acts, its label, that's what's wrong with the show coupled with Simon being invested in the outcome.

Isn't that how Popstars The Rivals was determined?

Was about to say the same thing. It would definitely be interesting.

I would just like them not to drag the final out over the two nights, could all be done on the saturday within 3 hours, the Sunday night episode felt like an anti climax really cos I'd had enough by then, it should start at 7 then finish at 10, still plenty of time for the acts to do 3 songs each and some interval acts before the winners announced, people are more likely to stay in then

There have been free votes this year so the voting revenue can't be that important.
They could have given 50% of paid votes to the acts in previous years it would not have been any skin off there nose.
That's the thing a hate about it they are determined to work these act for free, give them nothing but a promise, give them no choices about the songs they sing, how they are portrayed in the media, even what they wear.
I don't really get it, there is room to be more generous but they don't seem to want to do it.

I thought too that a Popstars The Rivals thing would be good, maybe a winner from each category or a male and a female winner and whoever wins on itunes? But then that would draw complaints that XF takes over the chart, especially if it was Christmas week!

On The Voice in America (and I think australia), they include itunes in the voting and if the song gets top 10 (or it might be top 20) they get a vote boost. That would try and ensure that the ones who sell get as far as possible, but then again that wouldn't matter in years like this year, 2010 and 2013 where the winner was so obvious and topped the vote most weeks.

Yeah its the purchases from ITunes count as votes. If they get in the Top 10 then its multiplied by 10. For the US Version anyway.

Maybe would be better if its just multiplied by two, if they get top 10 they are practically guarenteed advancing to next week anyway
