Why? Rock singers typically do a lot better in bands

I'd like X Factor so much more if it was a show for solo artists or bands showing their own material (any genre). I'm kind of surprised that no-one has managed to make that work (that I know of). There was a C4 sort of battle of the bands program maybe a decade ago but it wasn't that popular.

Someone make this show please.

As things stand my suspicion is that anyone coming through the X Factor process is going to fairly heavily managed and will be advised strongly (if not told) on things like who to work with, what to release, how to look, where to be, etc. I might be wrong though - it's just my suspicion.

That may be because he is a rock singer. Most decent rock singers have careers fronting bands. It is what he is made for.

At least he knows what's best for him. There are plenty on this show that clearly should not be solo artists.

I guess it worked for Daughtry BUT Ben Haenow doesn't hold a 1000th of the talent of Chris Daughtry so I don't see it.

He's best off making as much as he can from his one album with Syco before he is inevitably dropped and then try and start his band on an indie label.

Do you mean Mobile/Orange Act Unsigned that used to be on on Sunday afternoons? I loved this show and it most bands had more talent in them than the entire x factor line up. Nobody else bored of singers?? Any muppet can sing but it takes skill to play a musical instrument and more so to put a band together that sounds any good.

That's a little bit offensive to people who have spent years training to reach the peak of the profession. If "any muppet can sing", why is it that most of this year's finalists struggled to put in a decent vocal performance?

Simple - because Simon's not looking for a singer, he's looking for the x factor, evidenced beautifully by Fleur. As I;ve said many times before, i'd love to see Mobile Act Unsigned come back. Sure, I wasn't a fan of all the bands on there, but it's good to see talented fame hungry people rather than untalented fame hungry people.

As for Haenow - he wants a band? A nameless band? I always wonder how much those guys earn - the nameless band e.g. One D's band. Or do they just rent-a-band depending on what country they're in? Those fellas must be the unsung heros of live shows/tours etc. Talented but forever nameless. A shame really.

Agreed - he's no Daughtry that's for sure, he's super talented

Yeah, it sounds like that. I wasn't a fan of the show but as a basic premise I don't see why it can't work - especially when you see the commercial success of X factor.

I think Jo Whiley and then Lauren Laverne were hosts. It had a low production cost with it being a T4 prog. I remember a small dark and dingy set, perhaps on purpose to make it look indie. I guess it wouldnt work on Saturday night TV as the bands wouldnt want to be seen to lower themselves. That said, any vehicle to promote good live bands and music is better than watching karaoke.
