I think you've made some excellent points there. Mainly about being propped up by the BBC and what the show promotes or fails to promote under the umbrella of The BBC.
I confess that sometimes even I lose sight of that as by watching the series even I tend to get hooked into the entertainment aspects of it and forget about the values it's supposed to promote. Not forgetting that Lord Sugar is actually a Lord. You expect a kind of, oh I don't know, a kind of integrity in that position? Which reminds me of a few years ago when many people were getting a bit pissed off with the BBC apparently supporting Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber's business interests. The BBC seem to like to help out various Lords to feather their own nests. If there is genuine value and a purpose behind what Lord Sugar is doing then it can be justified to some extent. I think the Apprentice is going down a different route. Its not relating performance to result, and its showing more comic errors than flashes of sense. Its not backing or finding most categories of small entrepreneurs, and helping them. Its basically about finding a particular winner - with a project that meets narrow criteria, of low risk and high return. Bianca winning would represent a more positive view - that suggests risks can be taken with the right person and idea. Mark would confirm the experience of series 7-9 - that whats needed is a safe project - that expands your existing job, and offers major profits for minimal risk. Its an interesting choice between doing what doesn't happen enough in Britain , and why the system only works for those with lots of money who invest in a few niche, high cost, sectors. |

Bianca won't win for two reasons. It may be a reasonable idea but as a stand alone business it is not financially viable. It was only being pushed as they needed to have someone for the final apart from Mark. Secondly Bianca is mediocre and Sugar knows it.

I think her business would work well as a concession in a department store, they colour match you and have samples of each and then most of the stock is held in the stock room and you have a small concession stand with the colour variations as samples you can touch and feel and colour match against your skin. Probably not as lucrative but I can't see it selling for 20 quid a pair, but likewise can't see how boots or super drug would have the shelf space for even half her lines.
The other option is as a concession boutique in a tiny shop like paperchase or knickerbox |

she lost because she wasn't good enough I'm afraid, and that is a fact. all throughout the process and in the final. she can present and that seems to be about all. poor people skills and too hard headed

I thought it was bad when she had the tights delivered to her, then basically told the other 3 to "sod off", total waste of time.
Something that puzzled me last night, perhaps I missed it, but weren't her 3 models all "very white" and not at all her target market? Not too mention her packaging that featured again a very white pair of legs!! |

I think the singing shows were defensible - logically and in BBC charter terms. . They showcased an art form, showed some of the training, and had quality contestants who fitted the bill. They also spread the publicity around various shows. They also found new talents who have gone on to big careers in some cases. There was a big idea - which was that the West End needed known stars to attract custom and that would help both those involved, and the country as a whole. The question mark is that there seemed to be favoured contestants, narrow views of what would work in 3 series, and some questionable judging, VTs and song choices leading to some people going. There's also been a lack of follow up for some of the talents, and the general idea sinc.e - with many UK top performers not working, and imported actors soap characters and ancient pop stars, performing less well, instead.

He can choose whoever he wants as the winner as it's he who is going into business with them, but what I don't like is being deceived by him making out that Mark was a bigger risk and more of a gamble than Bianca. Mark's proposal was arguably the safest candidate proposal he's taken on so far with the current format of the show. |

but most women (whatever their race) wear black tights anyway
so what's so revolutionary about Bianca's idea? ![]() There's still a market for flesh-coloured tights. Nothing more tacky than mottled or bruised legs, and it certainly doesn't scream 'classy' in a work context. I mean, you rarely see Kate Middleton with bare legs. Quote:
But Mark is a pretty terrible example of how to behave in business, and is offering a project thats pointless, and one that shows no entrepreneurial skill .
Bianca has already won international recognition for entrepreneurial skill, and she has the best show perfomance this series - while Mark has the worst,. He can't reasonably claim Mark is better, At some point the BBC are also going to notice that he's not championing good business practice, or finding real entrepreneurs, or helping small worthwhile businesses find capital, or creating a show that does more than give him a safe option to make a lot of money. He's also creating a show where the outcome has nothing to do with the story, and most candidates need not turn up - as their plans don't meet his narrow criteria - which ultimately isn't acceptable ![]() Quote:
