To my mind Bianca's business plan has much the same of a problem as Roisin's, in that she's planning to start from the ground up in a business she's not involved in. Roisin's business would undoubtedly swallow Sugar's £250K pretty quickly with no return on investment, but so would Bianca's. They've not only got to pay out to source a manufacturer and do all the design and branding development, they've also then got to try and get the product on the shelves and market it. Who's to say that the big supermarkets and major hosiery retailers are going to allocate Bianca any shelf space in the hosiery section over the major players like Pretty Polly? If no-one is prepared to stock her product on the High Street, then she will have the same problem as Roisin, though the one advantage tights have over ready meals is that you can easily buy them online, so if Bianca sells via the internet on her own website or gets one of the main hosiery websites to stock her brand then she may do all right, but I can't help thinking Sugar would be taking a huge risk and it could be some time before Sugar gets his £250K back once all start-up costs have been taken into account. As an investor, he'd surely want to choose something that will get a return on his money straightaway, and not a couple of years down the line.
Mark is a much safer bet. He's basically sticking to what he knows, and if all his boasts stand up to scrutiny then Sugar will get his money back quicker.
Frankly though, I thought all five of the final business plans were pretty naff. It's almost like they think "Hey, I'll apply for the Apprentice" and then worry about what their business plan will be after they've been accepted and just make something up on the spot. Most of the investment ideas this year have been a joke.
If the prize had been the original job with Sugar and not an investment, then Roisin would have walked it. If I was investing, although as a person, I prefer Bianca over Mark, I think as a business proposition, Mark is the much safer bet. It will be interesting to see how Sugar sees it.
