Well, it is that time of year again. Time to reflect on the music of year 2014 and count down my top 5 albums. It has been another very strong year for new music and I had a hard time narrowing it to 5 but here goes.
5. Ciara O'Neill - Primroses
Northern Irish singer/songwriter whose music falls at the dark end of the folk genre. You can listen to it in full here http://ciaraoneillmusic.bandcamp.com/releases
4. Joanne Shaw Taylor - The Dirty Truth
The more I hear, the more I love her music. An extraordinarily talented guitar player and singer. Here is a taster from the album https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEHboZ4Shho
3. Wucan - Vikarma
Discovered this band late in the year but I am glad I did. The music is very much in the psychedelic blues mould and there is some brilliant flute work in some of the songs. Listen to it here http://wucan.bandcamp.com/
2. Gemma Hayes - Bones and Longing
You can't rush perfection and that is what Gemma Hayes always strives to achieve. This is a crowd funded album and, in my opinion, it did not disappoint. She is clearly loving what she does more now she is not attached to a record label. Check it out here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...MPemsXX5hLnmaz
1. enkElination - Tears of Lust
My number one album and definitely the most played. Elina Siirala on vocals (a fantastic soprano) and Shadow Venger on guitar makes for a great team. The album is a phenomenal example of symphonic rock/metal and can be listened to here http://enkelination.bandcamp.com/
And an extra treat from enkElination, a cover of the Queen classic The Show Must Go On https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kDENfpNft8
That's it feel free to share your own top 5
