Does being favourite cause a backlash?

Since the backlash against Caroline and her being "favourite" is well and truly under way I was curious if this is always the way its been on this forum?
Frankie suffered it at the beginning when she got off to a strong start, then Pixie and Jake when he appeared as a contender, so is it always the case that anyone who is a favourite receives a backlash of sorts from other people who are fans of someone else?

I think it's just a case of people changing their sights as the targets get eliminated week by week. Overmarking from the judges always causes a backlash too.

What backlash has Caroline received?

I think being perceived to be bulletproof causes resentment. People presumed the judges would ALWAYS save Pixie no matter WHAT and with Jake the same end for the opposite reason - that his public vote would be such that he'd be guaranteed the final (and probably the win) even if he danced like a gibbon with encephalitis. Neither were true, yet both of them got it in the neck for perceived "unfair" and thoughtless bias in their favour on the part of others.

Caroline doesn't seem to fit either bill...or she fits both, mildly. Either way, I'm not seeing a massive "backlash" other than that the more hardcore fans of other couples are moving to argue against her winning, as is always going to be likely moving into a final. Now, it's not about picking someone to go out ahead of your fave - it's picking EVERYONE to go out ahead of your fave. Things are always going to get more vicious generally at this point.

I never understand this (although accept it happens with SCD and other shows that have DS forums). It has so little chance of being productive that I don't know why anyone bothers. Even if a fan of one contestant had a rhetoric so dazzling that it changed the minds of fans other contestants on the thread, and I have yet to see that happen, it is hardly likely to influence the outcome of the show.

What will be will be.

Agree, It's the judges showing favouritism that causes backlash more than anything
