Question is in the thread title.

My personal opinion is that Chris Martin of Coldplay is the best singer in the world. He is the only artist I have ever seen and heard that is exactly the same live and recorded. Simply a faultless singer in my view.

Opinions please.

To me, my most favorite singer James Otto is the best because of how much of his heart can be heard in his voice which is all of it.

God bless you and him always!!!

Impossible to say.
Ella Fitzgerald was the most perfect singer , with a huge vocal range and a sweet voice.
Elkie Brooks has a wonderful rock/blues voice.
Barbara Dickson has a superb voice.
Nat King Coles vocals were pure gold and dulcet toned.
Karen Carpenter has a voice like honey.
Roger Daltreys voice is awesome.
Petula Clark is a hell of a good singer who puts her own interpretation on a song.
I would say these are the top-drawer. Do you reckon Chris Martind voice, precision and nuances as good as these?

I was meaning more right now in this day and age but I would still yes. Like I said Chris sounds exactly the same live or recorded which virtually no other artist does. That is amazing itself. His tone is absolutely perfect and so consistent.

For pure pure quality of voice he probably isn't the best no, but for consistency I think he is. How often do you hear a singer or band perform live and sound very different from their records.

For the record I don't think metal singers get anywhere near enough credit. James Hetfield, Ronnie James Dio and Bruce Dickinson are supremely high performers who don't get anywhere near the credit they deserve from the wider music industry,

Guy Garvey, Elbow. I just really like the tone of his voice, and the emotion it conveys. He may not be the most technically perfect of singers, but his voice has a unique character and you can always feel what he's singing. Whereas I find Chris Martin's voice a bit bland and soulless.

I wouldn't say he is the best singer ever, but he is unusual.

It's weird because I think he sounds out of tune - but in tune.

At the moment Ithink Che Aimee Dorval on the Casualties of Cool record is just sublime

You have to define what you mean by "best".

Whitney Houston when she was at her peak, she sung 'I wanna dance with somebody', live on TOTP and sounded amazing.

daft question.... 'in the world'?.... to answer that youd need a comprehensive knowlege of all the singers 'in the world' . and what criteria does 'best' mean?...

if its chris martin (pmsl) has he got any credentials like awards, critical acclaim, etc from around 'the world'?

or does the op mean 'whos your favourite singer'? because in the grand scheme of things its certainly not chris martin!

the quality of the voice is down to so many aspects .... tone, character, control, personality, range, power, depth, pitch, expression, emotion/performance ... and all these are then subjective to different genres/style .... art is art ... so it is a subjective experience and judgement ... each to their own ... thankfully. Like what you like.

Or DID, in Ronnie's case, as he is sadly no longer with us.

Anyway, the original question is impossible to answer as one man's meat is another's poison and someone who has a faultless voice to the ears of one person will sound totally out of tune and flat to another. It's all about your individual interpretation.

Odd choice, as I thought you meant the most exciting, not the one able to reproduce live what they can in the studio.

I think, hands down without any chance of another coming in for a while, Rob Halford.

You may not like the style, but that man was belting it out in the early 70s, and he can still rip it up all these years later. Even at the end leg of a world tour, he just hits every single note like it was just so easy.

Whitney was but right now? I don't know. Pink is exactly the same live as on record so I'm gonna say her.
