Anyone excited about this?

Josh's coming of age album should be amazing.

I've not been that mpressed with anything they've done since Blood Sugar Sex Magik really, but I'll give the new album a listen. I wouldn't say i'm excited by it though.

Californication was solid album. But Yeah One Hot Minute, By The Way and Studium weren't the best. I didn't even bother with the last one.

I've had a listen to them all, but even Californication for me wasn't that great. It feels like they've lost the crucial elements of their sound that made them unique, that perfect mix of rock and funk which made their earlier albums up to and including BSSM so great. This might be a bit controversuial, but since they kicked the drugs, they've been a shodow of their former selves.

Didn't know about this, what is the album titled?
I saw RHCP live in 2011 and they were fantastic.

Are you kidding me? Granted bssm is their best work, but Californication, By The Way and Stadium Arcadium are quality albums, although the latter had a few "filler" tracks on it. Their last album was okay, nothing special admittedly.
Anyway long time Producer with Rhcp Rick Rubins is NOT producing the next album, and that fact is vital to how good the next album is going to be.

I too am bemused by the dislike for their later material. For me Califorinication, By The Way and Stadium Arcadium are some of their best if not best full stop work. They sounded like they had finally grown up and were all the better for it.

I would also attribute a lot of that success to guitarist John Fruciante returning to the band. He brought a more melancholy deeper vibe to their music as well as some stunning guitar playing. Definitely one of my personal fave guitar players ever. He also did some interesting solo albums and had a hand in bringing Warpaint to the attention of the rock press too. Top guy and guitar hero.

That said his replacement Josh does a surprisingly great impression of Fruciante's playing style. Will be looking forward to hearing that new album.

No one wanted a mature Chili Peppers they were supposed to be a fun band. Mature Chili's just lacks any spark and just showcases what a horrible lyric write Kiedis is, Californication just about retained the freshness, but By The Way was a chore - Stadium Acadium is probably one of the most tedious double albums ever - full of Kiedis lazy City name coupling lyrics.

Great musicians are Flea, Chad and pretty much any of their guitarists over the years - but very limited song writers.

A fair amount of people enjoyed their later stuff (myself included), maybe the Chilis themselves wanted to do a more serious, grown up type of music style.

Hell they can't always be jumping around rapping to Yertle the Turtle when they're past their 50s, there's nothing wrong with them wanting to do something a bit different to their debut and BSSM.
