Guys, not much interest in the quiz this week. I was hoping for a better response! Have a go, you might enjoy it! Cheers.

This is the final reminder for this weeks quiz entries! I'm off to a wedding shortly so wont be about until tomorrow.

I will just say that to the relief of many, Week 3 questions are somewhat easier! They will be up tomorrow afternoon.

Here we go guys, this week's set of slightly easier questions:

Firstly though, the rules (again in a spoiler box):

Spoiler
Here's the boring bit:

1) I will accept your first Personal Message to myself as your definitive entry for that week. Any further attempts to answer for any individual week will not be considered.

2) Points will be simplified this year. You get one point for each correct answer. Simple. All points are carried forward to the following week to form a running total. The person with the most overall points at the end of the 8 week run, wins.

3) In the event of two or more people getting the exact amount of points at the end, I will post three tie-break questions. These questions will appear on Sunday 11th October (the day the quiz finishes) until 5pm. The first person to post their correct answers publicly wins!

4) The prize: The prize is a glossy desk calendar. Each month is a different photo of a classic Radio Times cover. There are four classic Christmas covers featured. In addition to this is a copy of a non-Christmas Radio Times from the late 70's or early 80's.

The runner up will also win a copy of a non-Christmas Radio Times from the late 70's or early 80's.

Remember: PLEASE GIVE YOUR ANSWERS BY GIVING ME A PERSONAL MESSAGE. This is a quiz anyone can enter so obviously, the answers need to be kept out of public view until the next week's questions launch.

5) Each week the quiz will close at midnight every Saturday night. New batch of questions will appear anytime between 00.01 and 12.00pm on the Sunday. No entry will be accepted after midnight Saturday.

I think that's it. Right, ready for the quiz!

THE QUESTIONS:

1. Who gave the very first "Alternative Christmas Message" for Channel Four?

2. What spooky drama starring Pam Ferris aired on ITV on Boxing Day 1999?

3. What was the Michael Morpurgo penned animation called that aired on BBC1 during Christmas 2014?

4. Who appeared in "Dynasty" for the first time when it aired on BBC1 on New Year's Day 1983?

5. Which long running popular drama bowed out forever in a feature length special on Christmas Eve 1990?

6. What was the name of the comedy clip show presented by Frank Muir that aired on BBC1 on Boxing Day 1982?

7. Which female comedy writer is referred to as "The Quiet Genius" in the 2009 Christmas Radio Times?

8. Who did the 2004 Christmas RT describe as being "Back in Black"?

9. Which Meryl Streep sweeping epic received its British television premiere on BBC1 on New Year's Day 1990?

10. When was the Queen's Christmas Day message first broadcast on television?

Hopefully you will find them easier to answer this week.

Remember, all answers by personal message to myself by midnight on Saturday 12th September.

Don't be confused.
It's actually the Christmas Radio Times countdown and Christmas TV thread.
You should stick around, it's a fun thread.

It's about the Christmas Radio Times and Christmas TV shows.

We have an annual quiz and a Guess the cover of the Christmas Radio Times competition (from November 1st) so it keeps the thread alive until more Christmas TV news becomes available.

In order to keep the thread active and to entice newcomers ( which it has), the quiz is something to enhance the countdown to Christmas. Questions are about the Christmas RT or Christmas programming. If you want to take part you are more than welcome and as there is still 65 points to win and a prize for the overall winner, give it a go.

I've been having a think about this year's Christmas Radio Times cover and barring a sudden shift in the editor's thinking, it seems that it will almost definitely be an original illustration/claymation photograph. So I feel that hopeful guesses of a photograph of say, Sherlock and Doctor Who pulling a cracker, will be long-shot guesses at best.

Looking back over the last decade or so, there seems to be covers that have a connection to high-profile shows that are on over the period (2005, 2008, 2009, 2012), the (outrage-generating ) covers which feature programme-related characters for tenuous reasons (2000, 2010, 2011) and straightforward seasonal illustrations typical of the 90's and early 00's that have no link to programmes over the period. More recently, between 2011 and 2014 the illustrators have been noteworthy for some reason or other, and have been presented by the Radio Times with some degree of pride and fanfare (this may have happened in other years that I'm not aware of).

To round-up this long-winded post, I feel (without making my official guess just yet) that a specially-commissioned illustration by someone with some sort of link to a family programme over Christmas - or an event relating to the year - might form the basis of my guess this year. Maybe a Julia Donaldson illustration of a family in a snow scene? I'm going to mull it over before I commit...

I was thinking something to mark the queen becoming the longest reigning monarch but after recent years it'll probably be a picture of some holly or a snowy field

A Bit of Quiz News:

So far this week, participation is quite low - just 4 of you have entered at the moment.

I thought I would give you a hint regarding week 5 questions (appearing on Sunday September 20th).

All questions will be based on claires_dad's website. This means everyone will be able to find the answers easily.

This week's questions feature two questions based on old RT back copies. I have considered that this may give those with back issues a slightly unfair advantage. Therefore, if anyone finds RT related questions difficult, please PM me and I will supply a cryptic clue for you to give you a helping hand.

In the meantime, I look forward to several more entries!

Wow! I have so far had record entries for this week's quiz, thanks everyone who entered. A few of you raised a query about question 10. It was indeed a bit naughty of me because there are two possible answers. I will accept either.

Deadline for anymore entries is midnight tonight.
