Most supermarkets sell mince pies all year round these days as they do with hot cross buns, although Tesco and Asda & Marks and Spencer now have "Christmas" or "Festive" written on the boxes and the best before date is at the moment end of November or early December!

Also in Tesco they has some Mr Kipling Halloween cakes best before 26th October!

I'm a traditionalist. I don't let a mince pie cross my lips before Advent

I'm the same. I also refuse to look at, buy or eat a hot cross bun until Maundy Thursday at the earliest - and NEVER beyond Easter Day. If people want a fruit bun, what's wrong with a tea cake or just a fruit bun? The cross is on the bun for a reason.

Last Reminder

This is the final reminder to get your answers in by midnight Saturday. I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who entered and to our regulars for playing along. Thank you also to all those who pointed out my mistakes - I will try and do better next year! A big thank you to claires_dad for allowing me to advertise his superb website.

I am going away in the morning due to a family bereavement so won't be back until later on Sunday afternoon. Therefore if a need for tie break questions arises I will post them as soon as I get back on Sunday and extend the time you have to answer accordingly. I will endeavour to announce the winner by midnight Sunday as planned.

So, until the answers, tie break questions and winner is revealed, for one final time this year, here are week 8's questions:

1. In the 1982 Christmas RT, there is an article titled "Visitors from the Past". Which children's ghost story that aired during Christmas that year, is it referring to?

2. In the 2011 issue, who was the subject of the RT Interview and declared "I need a drink and more chemicals"?

3. Which fictional character did Marc Warren sink his teeth into in this new adaptation of a classic story during Christmas 2006?

4. In the 1998 edition, Joanna Lumley reveals her pet hate at Christmas. What is it?

5. Where did Channel 4 Racing come from on Boxing Day 1997?

6. On Christmas Day 1992, Channel 4 aired a family film about a little boy who didn't see the point of going to school. What was the name of the film?

7. Which rather hard hitting Cambodian based British film about an American journalist, premiered during Christmas 1987 on BBC2?

8. "Songs for Young Lovers" is an article in the 1985 Christmas RT about which popular 80's British singer?

9. Which classic movie rounded off BBC1's Christmas night schedule in 1984?

10. According to the 1986 Christmas issue, who was "The greatest showman on earth"?

11. Who played Elgar's Cello Concerto in E Minor, Op85 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for BBC2 in 1987?

12. Which science fiction Dennis Quaid adventure movie received its Network Premiere on BBC1 on the Saturday before Christmas in 1990?

13. Also starring Dennis Quaid, the next night, BBC2 premiered which thriller directed by Jim McBride?

14. What was the title of the Boxing Day 1991 episode of ITV's Ruth Rendall Mystery?

15. Who was having an all day breakfast on Christmas Day 1992?

Thanks for your kind words. It is something that wasn't entirely unexpected but it still leaves a horrid numbness in you. I will be relieved when I am back home in familiar, happy surroundings on Sunday. Until then, enjoy the weekend and the last lightish evenings as the clocks go back next weekend! Look forward to declaring the winner of the Quiz on Sunday......

Once again, thanks for your kind words. I am on my Mobile so wont be collating all the points and final scores just yet as it is difficult to manage on a mobile. I can tell you though that we have an outright winner of the quiz so I will announce that later. There are two runner ups with equal scores but only one runner up prize, so a tie break for runner up position will be launched later.

One poster supplied the answer to Question 5 correctly and named both race meetings. I was looking from the offset to see who would supply both meetings and although you all named "Kempton Park", the RT actually listed "Leopardstown" aswell. It was this poster who correctly named both race meetings who has ultimately become our overall winner.

Tie Break

There is just one runner up prize of a non-Christmas RT. But two people who could win it!

altally and nd, this is purely for you two guys. Below is one question. The first one out of you both to answer publicly, in this thread, correctly, is the official runner up and wins the prize. You have until 9pm to enter. If no one enters I will put your names in a hat and pick the winner at 9pm. Good luck!

What year saw the first ever publication of the Radio Times Christmas Double Issue?

Can I say a huge, huge thank you to you all for entering. It has been great fun. The Quiz will return next year with a new 6 week run starting on August 28th 2016. Cheers.

Well done marke09, and nd. Just missed out! It's been fun.
nd

Actually, looking at the answers, I think I only actually got 12 points if you needed both locations of the racing on Ch4. That would mean Altally should have been in second place and me third.
