I love this thread, I have been on here for the last week reading every post from the beginning to the end and I am finally caught up. Getting excited for the cover competition and Im I missed the quiz but I will log on earlier next year as I guessed quite a few correct answers while reading through this years quiz. So now i'm up to date the countdown can begin. Well once I have been on Holiday to Haven with the kids next week, but that will take us to Halloween and then we are on the home stretch. Ho ho ho!

Is there any chance they would do Saturday 24th December - Friday 6th January?

I'm sure they would, I'm sure it's gone up to at least the 5th in the odd year.

It makes sense where possible as people like to have Christmas and new year in one guide

The 6th is probably the latest they'd ever go, since in years when Christmas Day/New Year's Day is a Saturday I'm sure they've done a 15-day issue going from Sat 18th-Sat 1st (and then duplicated the 1st in the next regular, single-week issue) #incrediblyanalpost

Wasn't that Christmas 99' so they could include January 1 2000

BBC1 wouldn't have taken up much room, cause we had 300 hours of 2000 today

They have done a 15 day issue before including January 1 but last time it was queried why they cant do it now the answer was that January 1 would be a Saturday so the start of a new week and therefore the schedules for that week would be too late to include in the Christmas double issue

I for one would not mind waiting an extra week for the double issue if it had New Year holiday listings but its also seen as a money making exercise for the magazines as you have to buy a double and a single issue

Indeed they did.

I actually don't mind the way it's done.

What happens when Christmas Day falls on a Saturday, they'd have to start the double issue on Christmas Day to get New Year's Day in as well!

Well, that's the 15-day issue as above - they've done Sat 18th-Sat 1st at least once, but I believe on other occasions it's been Sat 18th-Sat 31st then a New Year issue running Sat 1st-Fri 7th.

I'm sure the schedule for Jan 1 2000 was fairly typical of those days.

BBC1 you had 2000 Today, including Live & Kicking.

ITV you had Children's shows including SMTV.

And wouldn't have taken long to work out

Look on the bright side the way the calendar works we only miss One Christmas and New Year Double issue rather than two consecutive years like we normally do

1995's a mighty odd one. Wonder why they didn't do 23rd-5th, like 2001?

They also did 16-29 December in 1972. (not 15-29th as I originally put!)

I didn't see the point of doing a 16th- 29th issue. It seemed a bit odd because the listings ended mid-Christmas!

Mind you, the way we celebrate Christmas now is different. Idents last for three weeks and not three days, people are off work for the duration and not just three days and it seems to be a more illustrious affair than twenty years ago. I doubt they would have a 16th - 29th issue again.
