They might not bother with MotD on Boxing Day this year but have an extended edition on the Sunday instead. Boxing Day has occasionally missed out MotD in its schedules.

I don't think it has. There is normally an MOTD whenever there is a full list of fixtures. There'll be another one on the 28th.

Yes, MOTD on 26th, 28th and 2nd Jan. The calendar is exactly the same as 2009/10.

Will Christmas Eve feature a Graham Norton Christmas special this year, or, will it be shown on Christmas Day itself post 10.30pm?

This should hopefully mean Digiguide will soon be releasing schedules a bit earlier. They may have listings for week Nov 7 to 13 tomorrow as they normally provide listings the following day the BBC reveal their highlights on the press office website.

Friday was Xmas Eve, then Saturday was Xmas Day, Sunday was Christmas Sunday, Monday was Boxing Day, then it was Holiday Tuesday and that lead to New Year's Eve and New Years Day on the Saturday with an additional holiday for all on the Monday 3rd. That had never happened before so I guess that's why they brought the 1982 issue out in the way they did. The only other time the RT started on Xmas Eve was in 1977.”

IIRC, the Christmas 1999 break was longer - Christmas Day was a Saturday and Boxing Day was a Sunday, so the Monday and Tuesday were both Bank Holidays. Wednesday and Thursday were "normal" days before the Friday, which was New Year's Eve and (for 1999 only) was a Bank Holiday, before the following Monday being a Bank Holiday (as New Year's Day was a Saturday).

And yes, that *is* how the BBC News website looked in 1999.

Yes, but 1982 was the longest Christmas holiday the UK in its entirety had ever had up to then, as Scotland started having Boxing Day as a holiday in 1974 and England and Wales had New Year's Day in the same festive season. That was my meaning.

I wonder if we will have the same 'Black Friday' nonsense this year, as we did last?

I was embarrassed by those scenes last year. Horrible spectacle.

Amazon have already announced a week of Black Friday specials from November 23 and Cybe Monday specials on the 30th with the boxing day sale starting December 21

It was horrendous. it showed the bad side of humanity. The ironic thing is is that Tesco is already selling a 40" TV for just £189.99. That is the same price as a 32" TV in the Black Friday sale at Tesco last Autumn.

am looing for a newtvfor Christmas butam hoding back tosee what deals tnere maybe at end of next month

think the media whipped up some hysteria last year -finny howcthe cameras knew where the trouble was going to be

this year i dont think the deals will be as good as last year because after Black Friday sales in December slumped for many retailers and why not have a black frida here in the Uk when its quiet sales wise

I think the thing that annoyed me the most about BF was that you can bet your bottom dollar that most of the marauding louts were buying cheap TVs to put on eBay, and denying genuine customers who might have wanted/needed one.

But we're digressing again! The Christmas Radio Times, isn't it great, etc etc...

It doesnt seem quite like mass appeal Christmas Day viewing to me, and as others have said that would mean two Steven Moffat shows on the same night (with Doctor Who).

"It is a Christmas-ish special. It will be around that time of year," he explained. "I'm not being vague because I'm evil, I just don't know."

" It definitely won't be on Christmas Day as it's "too crowded", but it will be aired around the festive period, even though "you could put it in the middle of summer and it would be fine".

Steven Moffat in September
