Lol! Like buses you get two great ideas come along at the same time!

I wonder if they'll show both Shaun the Sheep and Stickman on Christmas Day this year?

Could we have a different look to Christmas Day? I would like to see a move away from animation on Christmas afternoon. Perhaps this:

2.00 Top of the Pops
3.00 The Queen
3.10 Shaun The Sheep: The Farmers Llama's
3.35 Film Premiere: Maleficent
5.05 Stickman
5.35 BBC News
5.45 Doctor Who
6.45 Call The Midwife
8.00 Strictly Come Dancing
9.15 EastEnders
10.15 Mrs. Brown's Boys
10.50 The Graham Norton Christmas Show
11.40 BBC News
EastEnders wouldn't play that late.

LIDL had theirs during Downton Abbey tonight. It wasn't any good though.

My RT Xmas cover guess is: Santa delivering presents, flying in the sky.

It's great to participate in this again and thanks for running it, Claires_dad.

AGHHHHHHHHHHH you wait months to enter the competition and someone goes and nicks your idea!!
If you look at my post # 90 dated 19-01-2015 of this thread I think you can see that this idea for the cover has been in my head for a long while now

Best advert so far (imho) is the Celebrations advert but watch out for John Lewis's advert on Friday #OnTheMoon (on Twitter)

Competition guess. Victorian carol singers beneath a street lamp in the snow.

My guess is, a victorian snowy street scene, featuring Sherlock Holmes, all inside a snow globe. Flying out from behind the snow globe is Father Christmas flying into the night on his sleigh.

They've never had an ITV show on the Christmas cover (although admittedly there's nothing to stop them these days).

Actually I hope I'm wrong about the cover [!] but it is the last Downton and the RT no longer has an obligation to promote BBC programmes. 2012 was a C4 programme [Snowman and the Snowdog].

Guess the Christmas RT Cover competition : entries so far

Anthony_Ryan : A traditional nativity scene with the baby Jesus, Joseph, the Virgin Mary, Shepherds and the 3 wise men

BadSignal : A Robin in A Snow filled scene

Only_You : The characters from ''Stickman' in a festive scene (Santa makes an appearance somewhere!)

wizzywick : A knitted effect. Either in the form of a traditional knitted jumper with snowflakes or snowman or a traditional scene. But, whatever the cover reveals itself to be it will appear to have the look that it has been created by knitting with wool

judomole : The Cover will be Shaun the sheep based on the new episode "The Farmers Lama"
Featuring Shaun and the rest of the flock, Bitzer the dog the Farmer and a lama gathered round a Christmas tree with snow in the background

altally : My guess is a Santa theme, similar to 1991, 1995, and 1997

marke09 : A Shaun the Sheep special from Aardman -
The farmer will be dressed as Santa handing out presents to Bitzer and Shaun, with Timmy dressed as an elf
In thebackground will be the rest of the sheep trying to decorate a Christmas tree but a string of lights will be around the biggest sheep -
the pigs will be dressed as the three wise men.
Also in the background will be the farmhouse with Santa's reindeer and sleigh on the roof and Santas wellies sticking out from the chimney pot.

It will also be an interactive cover so when you use an app it will have Shaun bleating MERRRRRY Christmas

Ian_Stevens : Cover to incorporate Sherlock and the Tardis to publicise both shows with a "Christmasy" background

pedrok : A traditional snowy village scene.

StuL42 : Santa, with sack of gifts, putting gifts under a Christmas tree

smokeycat : a big Christmas pudding, maybe with a robin

Claires_dad : a Sherlock cover with Sherlock Holmes and Watson in a snowy Victorian London

Aaron_Cardwell : I think we will see a traditional cover comprising of a snowman and a robin will be perched on his twig arm. With Santa 'whooshing' off above the night sky

FootballFan87 : Santa delivering presents, flying in the sky

SHANK0055 : A large fireplace with a roaring fire, Christmas garland, stockings hung etc

nd : Victorian carol singers beneath a street lamp in the snow

vinnyvega : a victorian snowy street scene, featuring Sherlock Holmes, all inside a snow globe. Flying out from behind the snow globe is Father Christmas flying into the night on his sleigh

tanni1930 : the cast of Downton Abbey in a Christmassy scene

If I've missed anyone off please let me know!

9pm is late enough. Even on Xmas night. It's not Downton.

Ok so here is my christmas cover guess. It will be a typical cobbled street in London. Like something you would see in Sherlock, the street will be covered in snow and by an old street lamp will be the Tardis with snow on top. The street will also be decorated with christmas lights.

I would love it if that was the cover. Sounds lovely and similar to 1987's.

but by having it at 9.15 it stops millions turning over for Downton at 9

Would any of the FTA channels have the rights to that, seeing as it only came out last year?

It doesn't work like that. When both channels finalise their schedules, one will simply move their programme opposite the other.

My guess: Baubles on a Christmas tree decorated with silhouetted cameo-style images of characters and items from this year's shows (Tardis, Holmes, stick men etc.)
