I would rather they saved the licence fee money and used an old logo, or use all idents from 2006 onwards and spend the money on programming. I think the majority of viewers would see the sense in that or just stick some snow over the BBC One ident.

Wil, the One Show be doing a Countdown or anything, leading till 7.27.

Not normally a one show viewer but if they did I'd probably watch it

OK I know you can’t do it with every programme but at last someone’s showing a bit of guile, wit and imagination. Putting together 2 tried and tested formats to bring a one-off Christmas Special. And, in 90 minutes this show trots out Partridge(Coogan), Whitehall, Cordon and Mack. Each and every one blindingly funnier that Mcintired, Bishop and Mrs Browns Bore’s. Well Done Channel 4.

It would make sense to stick with an old ident, we've had the same line-up for years

Who's going to win though

I think we can safely say it will be someone who predicted . . .

Spoiler
Santa in his sleigh or Shaun the Sheep related

It's all about opinions though, I don't like Alan Partridge, can take or leave Whitehall, Cordon and Mack I do find can be funny and I don't mind Michael McIntyre!

I also like Mrs Brown's Boys!

From what I've seen on here I'm happy with the Sprout - just as I'm generally happy with sprouts and I had my first sprouts of the season on Sunday

If someone predicted "Santa in his Sleigh" but not Shaun the Sheep, but someone else predicted "Santa in his sleigh with Shaun the Sheep" then surely the latter suggestion will win over the former? But, claires_dad has been nothing but fair in the past and we should just trust him with the result this year too. He might need claires_mum to pick a name from a hat!

I am not overly impressed with Alan Partridge and Jack Whitehall is nothing special in my view either. I also like Michael McIntyre, and LOVE Agnes Brown!

The BBC once again getting carried away by promotions rather than content.

I couldn't give two hoots about Sprout Boy or expensive animations promoting the BBC1 Christmas. Just cobble together some clips and put the money into content.

Launching the idents tonight is crazy. They should be a treat to viewers not an advertising weapon. We'll be sick of the sight by Christmas Day. You might as well take the Christmas ident down at midnight on Christmas Eve - with NYD already unfestive and part of the "2015", "2016" etc campaign it's only a matter of time...

More BBC1 Christmas ident news!

BBC1 launches Christmas campaign with 3D all-star cast

Quote:
“BBC1 launches Christmas campaign with 3D all-star cast - Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Capaldi and Graham Norton among 10 big-name stars to get animated makeover in advert telling story of ‘Sprout Boy’

BBC1 is set to launch its annual Christmas campaign, with stars including Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Capaldi and Graham Norton getting a 3D animated makeover.

The promotional trail, which launches after The One Show finishes at 7.30pm on Tuesday, features 10 of the corporation’s biggest stars, who have all received an animation overhaul.

The line-up also includes Sherlock actor Martin Freeman, The Voice judge Will.i.am, Luther star Idris Elba, Great British Bake Off’s Mary Berry, EastEnders’s Dot Cotton and Strictly Come Dancing co-hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly.

The promotional trail, voiced by Doctor Who actor Capaldi, tells the story of “Sprout Boy”, who sets out on a journey to find friendship at Christmas.

Being a sprout, not the most-loved vegetable of the Christmas season, he is turned away by everyone.

But wait, Sprout Boy stumbles upon a gathering of BBC1 stars and characters – as you do – who “welcome him and invite him to join their Christmas lunch and celebrations”.

The campaign, developed by ad agency RKCR/Y&R, includes a TV trail, a range of promotional idents and social media activity.

Sprouts seem to be a bit of a thing among broadcasters this Christmas.

Sky has used the same veg in its Christmas ad, which tells the story of a girl who doesn’t want to eat her sprouts, instead using them to embark on an adventure through Sky Movies films that will be available over the festive season.”

I agree. Spot on. I remember many moons ago when I was little, the Christmas Ident Globe was shown Mid afternoon Christmas Eve and lasted until the end of Boxing Day night. It was always a thrill to see what the ident was going to be Christmas Eve. Not the same now! I suppose times change.

I always thought the Father Christmas face was a bit scary.

I'm glad we've moved past that dull era of Christmas idents for three days and maybe not changing idents for 2/3 years in a row...unless you're BBC2. I do find December 1st is too early especially when you're still introducing things like Panorama. A week before Christmas is the perfect time and take it up to New Year's Day.

The programmes do need looking at though.

Perhaps the final of Strictly would be a good time to launch them, as they did at one time I believe?

I agree more important is the content and I would hope with DA not on next year BBC One could take the lead and be a bit adventurous. Perhaps either ditching or alternating CTMW and DW.

Whilst I will refrain from entering the "CTMW shouldn't be on Christmas Day debate", I will politely point out that Christmas telly in 2015 is the same as Christmas telly in 1985. BBC1's biggest current shows getting Christmas specials in prime Christmas slots. BBC1 are infact being far more adventurous this year - launching Dickensian is bold indeed, and placing a Peter Kay biopic on Christmas Eve is certainly unusual. It would be impossible for BBC1 to show programmes that don't exist, and when you say "I hope they'll be more adventurous", what exactly do you mean?

Guess they mean put a film premiere or something on, found a clip on YouTube yesterday, Christmas 2000 and they had Titanic on at 5,45 on Christmas Night.

These days it would be pointless, as people will still be out.

It is easier and less time consuming to record 1 hour show than a 3 hour film maybe

Well for example this year I would have had Sherlock as my centre piece on Christmas Night on BBC One. The schedules just need a bit of imagination. Move CTMW to Christmas Eve and DW to Boxing Day, leaving EE, SCD as the starter, Sherlock as the main course and Mrs brown as dessert. I agree Dickensian is a bold commision and a move in the right direction and will be interesting. I am sure there will be some gems hidden away in the schedules. I am looking forward to the Agatha Christie 'and then there were none.'

Ah, I get you now. I believe Sherlock was always intended for Christmas Night, but then came the simultaneous cinema screening idea! So that put paid to that, but I do agree that whilst the BBC1 Christmas night schedule reads like a Greatest Hits list, it would be nice to see something different in the line up.
