"No repeats between 10am and midnight" on Christmas Day itself? Er, *cough* The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause *cough* which I'm watching again this year, and Madagascar 3: Europe's most wanted, which I enjoyed watching last Christmas when it premiered due to the awesome HD picture quality. The BBC's spin on the matter is hilarious!

That's because In TV land films are never classed as repeats, never have been!

If you look in any TV Guide you'll never see the word "repeat" after a movie!

Yeah, I noticed that a lot of years ago! It's like the lyrics of an old song I once heard-"but they're not called repeats, they're called "another chance to see""-saving money, more like!

Just read that in their paper. The breakdown for the individual 4 main channels with repeats over the festive fortnight is.

BBC1 - 128/238 repeats (47% down from 50% in 2014)
BBC2 - 239/307 repeats ( 78% up from 74% in 2014)
ITV1 - 205/246 repeats(70% up from 57% in 2014)
Channel 4 - 239/341 repeats(70% down from 72% in 2014)

ITV1 stand out as the main offenders, quite shocking figures for Britain's second biggest channel.

That's a silly thing to say. Programmes are classed as repeats.

TV is great at Christmas but only in small doses in my opinion if you have family and should spend more time with them that sat around watching a movie that's been out more than two years or Christmas 'specials' of regular programming.

For those who we alone and don't choose to be should have people around them so they don't rely on the television for company.

That's just my view but that said, it's a special time of year that the broadcasters should pull put all the stops. The big five days - Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, NYE and New Years Day - should be wall to wall new programming on the main 5 channels including movie premieres. Other channels associated with them (BBC3, ITV2 etc should have the repeats that are defined as 'classics').

Just a couple of years ago the Radio Times and TV Times used to pride themselves on all the new programming over the period with 'XXX films over 14 days with XXX premieres' splashed across the front cover. BBC this year hasn't even bothered in their promo trailers with just Brave mentioned. ITV are showing festive films on the big day from over 15 years ago.

As said in an earlier post, since 2000 and the increase in digital channels and online capabilities the main terrestrial channels have admitted defeat and given up on providing those 5 days of special programming.

I feel sorry for this relying on just freeview who want some telly entertainment

Does anyone know if the listings in yesterdays Sun newspaper are accurate. I haven't seen any confirmed whole listings on here so assume they have not released all the details. So am not sure if The Sun are making some of it up.

It probably is as the final schedules have been confirmed. The Christmas Radio Times is out countrywide tomorrow.

Meanwhile in other Xmas TV news it's been confirmed that Bruce Forsyth is still not well enough to do this year's Strictly Christmas Special, due to be recorded next week. Claudia Winkleman will be co-hosting the special instead alongside Tess Daly.

It's silly for The Mirror to phrase it that way. Yes, films aren't classed as repeats in the schedules-they never are, for some reason-but they still count. While the BBC may have, by far, the best programming of all the terrestrial broadcasters at Christmas, overall they still repeat too many films at Christmas, as do the commercial broadcasters, however I expect more from the BBC as they are our biggest and best broadcaster. Channel 4 are repeating films too, but at least some of those haven't been aired in many years.

Sneak preview of what the bbc will offer before radio times comes out.

Oh, and although RT is £4 every year there's usually a £1 for 12 issues offer which I have been taking up for the past few years.

Just keep and eye on HUKD

It seems to have been today - I live in Peterborough and was able to get that (and another one - I think it was TV and Satellite Week) at lunchtime.

Likewise. I've nothing against the producers of the new cover - their output is excellent - but I think it's a lazy choice on the behalf of the Radio Times. Will we ever get another Christmas Tree Village-calibre cover again?

I saw the Total TV Guide in Tesco tonight but I've been good and resisted buying. I've also avoided any of the christmas schedules including the one printed in The Sun yesterday. Looking forward to picking up the RT tomorrow morning
