thank you
Obviously I like the cover as I won but with 3 Aardmann and 2 Raymond Briggs themed covers in the last 8 years plus the giant cat it is about time we had a more traditional Christmas cover and by that I don't mean Santa but more like the years 1975-1977 or 1981-83
As for next year's competition see post # 1889

I got my Total TV Guide today as I have for the last 4 years as i find it a better layout
I will get the Radio Times as well but only because I won the cover competition
they realy do need to have a shake up when it comes to their Christmas Cover

Well done, judomole!

I'd like it if we could have a traditional Christmas scene as a cover -- e.g. a snowy village. I know they probably think that's a bit boring but Christmas is all about tradition.

I'm going to try and get a copy today. Not holding out much hope, but you never know. Otherwise I'll pick one up on Monday.

I do rather like this year’s cover. For me it’s much better than last year’s which just seemed odd and I didn’t understand the point of it. That giant cat was the stuff of nightmares. Mind you, I’m more a dog person!

I agree that a nice, Christmassy scene would be good, although I thought the 2011 Christmas Tree design, while being very well done, was a bit ‘flat’ and didn’t draw me in at all.

I haven’t tried any of the other guides mentioned, but will buy Total TV Guide this year because quite a few people here have spoken well of it. I’m afraid, in addition to RT, I buy TV Times every Christmas, even though that might be sacrilege! But it dates back to the days when you had to buy both because RT didn’t include ITV programmes and vice versa. And I like the border designs on the ‘special day’ pages too!

Now waiting for the post to arrive and see if it includes my subscription copy of RT…

It seems the independent newsagents are better than the chain stores!

I've just read on Twitter that an Asda store (not sure where) refused to sell the Christmas Radio Times this morning because they have "too many editions out". Presumably they don't have the shelf space for all the issues, but it's not like this is unique to this year.

Post has been this morning, no subscriber copy of RT but then I'm not expecting it before Wednesday.

I'm off out shortly to get my Total TV Guide though

It does seem to cause confusion. I know in previous years people pick up the wrong copy because there are three editions on display at once! There seems to be a Christmas magazine stand now in supermarkets which makes things clearer.

I remember one year going into WH Smiths and the Christmas Tv Times was clearly on display but when I picked one up a member of staff told me to put it back as they cannot sell them until the next day by law. They actually refused to sell one to me. Why put them on display then. Anyway I walked along to a nearby newsagent who also had them on display. I picked one up and they had no problem at all. This was back in the 80's when you didnt know the listings until you got the magazine.

Well done judomole!!!

Can't believe it's over for another year The cover is nice enough, but really looking forward to the day we get a traditional scene.

No copies available in the North of England up to now, but that was to be expected.

I worked in a newsagent back in the 80s and we were not allowed to sell the magazines until the official on sale date despite having the mags in a day or two before that date but they always use to do a separate run on them because of the weight of the vans

Yes, an embargo usually includes putting them on display as well. With RT I think they're put on shelves as soon as they're received as there's no secrecy surrounding them.

I got my copy today in Shropshire. It's the first time I've ever managed to get the Christmas Radio Times on its first release day.

I got my Christmas RT this morning from a small newsagent kiosk in my local shopping centre. Gonna put my feet up this afternoon with a nice cup of tea and have a good browse through it.

Now that some posters have actually got the Christmas Radio Times in their hands, I am quoting something I posted in my first post in this thread, on 2 January 2015.

'Anyway, before we know it Easter will have come and gone, the May bank holidays will be past, the tans from the summer will have faded, Halloween and Guy Fawkes night will be but a memory, Wizzywick will have run the pre front cover competition competition and Claires_dad will have opened the legendary guess the front cover competition. The time will fly bye!'

This year has flown bye. Can't believe that the first copies are being sold in some parts of the country. I don't imagine I will see copies in local shops in Edinburgh for another few days yet. Next weekend is when we will put our decorations up. So I will avoid buying it until next Friday night, and take my time looking through it.

So, the London (/Midlands/Anglia) edition of RT is the first to go to press again. What a surprise.

No TV mags in my part of south Wales today.

I think it's always been that way. I guess it's where the most people live and it's the easiest place to reach.

Has anyone got theirs today who live in other parts of the country?

Christmas decorations are up in our house today, but no sign of the Christmas RT in my local WH Smith or Sainsburys here in Sheffield.

I'm sure there's a reason for the gradual rollout across the country, but given that several of the other guides are in the shops already they must be losing sales from customers who aren't that fussed by which one they buy.

To be fair the RT sell 2 or 3 times as many Christmas issues than the others, it must be a logistical nightmare to get them all sent out on time!

rr

Yeah, I'm sure you're right, and there will only be a limited amount of printers to cope with all the demand (including multiple concurrent editions), but it's still a shame.

It's all the internets' fault - I used to live in blissful ignorance of countrywide stock availability in days gone by..

Went into My local Sainsburys in Chelmsford, Essex and there were tons of Radio Times everywhere. The grin on my face as I picked one up, every year I am like a kid in a sweet shop. 292 pages this year, is this more, less or the same as last year?

£4 though is very expensive although after an initial flick I like the look of the wording used on the main days and schedule wise Xmas Eve which is my favourite day of the year is looking very good with one of my favourite Xmas movies bring shown and apart from 'Enders BBC1 has a very light hearted family friendly fun line up which is perfect for an evening like this. I actually like the cover although RT are relying on Aardman too much.

Thank you to all the people who set up the quiz, the cover comp and everything that makes this thread so much fun to read. I will take part in the ratings quiz after I look at the schedules in more detail. Time to raise a glass with the RT on my lap to the best season of the year, Cheers 🎄😊

Sadly I've not been able to get a copy of Total TV Guide today which is strange as for the last 4 years on the trot my local shop has had all the Christmas TV mags in on the Saturday, This is the first year in ages I've been able to get it on the Saturday.

Looks like I'll have to wait until Tuesday before I can get it.
