Will the extra viewers for the Final decide who wins?

The final will most likely be up in the viewing figures compared to previous weeks so will the people who just tune in for the final and vote for the dances they like from the final alone be the ones to decide who wins?

Well as things stand, I think regular viewers will just vote for their favourite irrespective of how they perform on Saturday night. Unless there's a massive blunder, nobody's really going to change from voting for their favourite couple to different couple for the final I think.
Out of the regular voters, the girls come out most favourably if we go by previous results. The opportunistic voter for the final who, as you say just votes for perhaps the best on the night is few and far between and won't make much of a difference.

I could be completely wrong!

I don't know how the numbers of on-line votes compares with the number of phone votes.

In order to vote on-line you do need to go through the BBC registration procedure.

People who don't normally watch the program are unlikely to be serious fans, and might not be bothered to go to the trouble of registering. Though it's still easy enough to phone in.

I vote on-line. But I suppose I could get more votes by phoning as well (if I wanted to).

I'm a regular viewer and my votes vary each week depending on who I think danced the best on the night. I can't read the minds of the rest of the viewers but I don't think I'm such a freak that I'm alone in my approach.

It would also explain why the same people aren't in the DO in consecutive weeks.

I can't imagine people who are only tuning in to see the final are likely to vote at all. Generally, those who vote are those who have shown a real interest in the show and have probably watched it from the start. Only tuning in for the final doesn't speak of much interest.

I think there are probably quite a few who only post on the BBC boards who might be first time viewers tonight and will vote because they already have a registered identity with the BBC. It won't be any hassle for them to vote on line.

I think a few regular viewers only vote in the final though (I used to be one of those before the free online votes were introduced), that might make a difference.

It seems likely that the final dance that they do would swing it a particular way in a close vote, but I think the first half tends to be more important - in recent years, Louis' Showdance was definitely a winning factor, and ditto Abbey's Waltz last series. Both were performed in the first half of the show - their dances in the second half both came bottom of the leaderboard.

I saw something about demographics of public voters on reality show, and thye said that younger female viewers vote in huge numbers.

If you look at the winners of Big Brother on C4, after about series 4 they were all younger male hunks, or sweet, nice, non-threatening girlies.

Since X-factor finishes a week earlier than Strictly you have all the X-factor viewers with nothing to do, so they watch Strictly for one week only. They have no idea of the trials and tribulations of the finalists - nor their personalities.

The last few winners have all fitted the "tweens" favourite criteria IMHO. Young male hunks or sweet girlies.

Last year's finalists - they would not have heard of Sophie, Susanna reminded them of their Mum,
Natalie - they would think she was a complete psychobitch (well she was in Corrie and that is all they know)
Abbey is a sweet girlie, and married to a footballer - she is their hero.

I am thinking a Frankie win as she is in a current Band, and married to a footballer, and sweet.

It would be fairer to regular Strictly viewers if ourpublic votes from the whole series, for each finalist, was carried over to the final. Then the X-factor votes would only count as a small part - not the deciding criteria.

I think the answer is yes, the extra viewers in this year's final could be the decider.

It's amazing how many people are still phoning in their votes, so I don't think the registration procedure is such a barrier as you might think. Also, some regular viewers don't vote until the final.

One thing I've never been sure about is X Factor voters who tune in to the show for the first time after the X Factor final. This series of SCD has been jam packed of style over substance performances going for the WOW factor, rather than being a balance of content and performance. In the final we've got Karen who is a prime pro for doing this, so I think Mark and Karen are the real danger couple who might attract extra votes from people who are not regular viewers like X Factor voters.

I'll admit to voting online using two accounts - mine and my husband's (he does know! ) - and there will be thousands like me who vote loads of times online. I reckon this share of the votes grows bigger and bigger every year.

I honestly don't think any couple is going into the final with an advantage over another, making it too close to call, so the extra voters could tip the balance this year.
