Tom and Camilla's was the pinnacle IMO. Something that interprets the the music, has lifts but isn't just a series of lifts. No gymnastics (hated Louis' and Lisa Snowdon), no ballads (don't like the sound of Caroline's at all). Not too much reliance on props.

I look for actual dance steps, rather than them just being used to link various lifts.
I don't like too many lifts, and if they've been included I want to see them done well because so many of the lifts we see are not. I don't like them to interrupt the flow of the dance in any way, and they should fit the music rather than being shoehorned in. They should also be in keeping with the rest of the dance e.g. overhead lifts in ballroom can look messy. I don't like them to be a 'best of' montage of what the celeb has already learned - it's better to start with the music and work from there like they would do with any other dance. Showdances I've liked were Louis and Flavia, Alesha and Matt, Matt and Flavia, and Natalie and Artem - all of these dances didn't try to mix too many styles and had a clear structure dictated by the music, with lifts and tricks that added to the performance rather than detracted from it. I think the ones this year might be alright - Kevin has the right idea to go with a ballroom theme because there have been far too many Latin based messy lift fests. I think Pasha might have finally learned his lesson from how bad his approach was with Chelsee and Kimberley. The other two I'm not sure about but I'm happy to see even one decent attempt at a showdance in a series because we've had so many crappy ones over the years. |

Joy in dancing, Tom's had it. Natalie had it.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I just wondered what everyone was hoping to see from tonight's show dances? If you are undecided about who to vote for, what will the dancers have to do to impress you? And what sort of things do you NOT want to see in a show dance?
For me, I want to see the pro really showcasing their celebrity partner's abilities and not trying to hog the limelight themselves. I definitely don't want to see one lift after another. Some may be impressed by constant lifts but I'm not. I like them, but only in moderation. How about you? I've seen showdances which would be perfect for Dancing on Ice. The fewer lifts the better for me.

Those performances full of lifts are something to behold (Hanna Kartoonin style [so?])... they are not ballroom/latin-inspired showdances though, and that is all I want!
I only remember Snowdon's freestyle outfit... blocked out the rest! I might be the one person to like her though... |

Frankie and Kevin's showdance was the perfect showdance for me. Lots of actual dancing and excellent theming and her love for dance really shone through

I look for magic and sparkle and and variety, a showbusiness showdance, which is what I saw in Mark's dance, and which is what the judges in previous years said they wanted to see.

None of them actually did anything for me,the only one that did all aspets of dance was Simons.
I thought this years final was quite poor really, but alas as a whole poor contestants the girls have pre training experience as usual so girls rule yet again.

I like the comical (but brilliant) showdances - like Tom and Camilla's - that will always be my favourite.
I think Jake would have excelled at a fast comical routine - and Pixie could have done any type of showdance and been brilliant. It's good if they have a theme or style running through the whole thing - tall order though to keep coming up with brand new ideas like that. |
