So in the US with my iPhone 6 on EE (sim only 10gb) and my iPad on Three (data sim). Can pick up both TMobile and AT&T and the EE sim is giving my 4G on TMobile.

I assumed this was the US "4G" but after using field test confirmed its LTE. Still speed limited (6meg seen) by the VPN to uk I assume (IP address is Orange/Hatfield!)

Nowhere in EE website does it say they have LTE roaming in USA, and friends I'm with who are on EE plans with less data aren't getting 4G, only 3G roaming.

I assume this is possibly on trial and due for launch soon? I thought Three had LTE a roaming here first?

I think this has been available for a while on EE - the full table is here. Remember EE are half owned by T-Mobile. As far as I know, Three doesn't offer 4G roaming anywhere, even on other Three networks abroad.

EDIT: In case you're interested, Vodafone's list is here.

Just to keep it accurate, EE are currently half owned by Deutsche Telekom (who also own T-Mobile USA).

It's because your iPhone has the correct LTE bands.

Three offers free data in the USA if you have a bundle. I use it all the time.

What does data cost on EE when in the USA?

With EE you have to buy a data bundle to use data.

Depending on your plan, you can buy for example on pay as you go and pay monthly:

200mb of data for £20
500mb of data for £40

On 3's network it would be 25GB of *3G* data for minimum £15.00 All-in-one bundle on Pay as you go.

Link to the roaming costs of USA on EE are here: http://explore.ee.co.uk/roaming/ee/usa

Thanks for the link. That page impossible to find via Google or going through EE site menus when on a mobile. I suspect it's fairly new to have T mobile on the end of that list that it's not showing on the mobile version.

Both phones on EE one with 4G one with 3G only are iPhone 6. The devices with 3 service are iPads, two on contract data sims and one (mine) on payg. Both 3 and EE roaming on 3G is quite slow, around 1.5mbps at the best. EE with 4G roaming manages 7mbps.

All with UK ip addressing. Unlike 6 years ago when you'd have a local ip / reverse DNS.

Be interesting to see what you were actually charged. It used to be £8 per MB, that's why I bought a USA PAYG SIM when I was there, not 4G then.

£8/MB is the Orange price plan and you have to manage it by SMS. Both TMobile and EE brands use a web page and data doesn't work until you select an allowance. Works quite well and designed to stop "bill shock".

I am happy with 3 in the USA. It allows me to use AT&T and t-mobile. I have a t-mobile sim but never use it any more. I use hangout with a phone number from US Google with my 3 sim

I have coverage issues with 3 in the uk, but for regular travellers it's a no brainier.

I have a US iPhone 6 and a 3 UK sim. It seems to favour T-Mobile USA over AT&T, I rarely see it connect to AT&T. I have 4G turned on but I've only ever seen it connect to 3G.

I always thought roaming was 3G only, what makes you think you get 4G abroad?

No worries, I had to bookmark them as they are so hard to find! I am fairly certain it has been on there for the past few months, as it was a few months ago I started following those pages while trying to decide whether to switch to EE vs. Vodafone (and remember the US was on both lists the first time I compared them).

Nothing made me think that. I hadn't done enough research to know whether it would work or not. All I knew was that data roaming would work in the U.S. at no extra cost to me.
