It's one thing for the Master to have a sex change, but it's another thing for the Doctor to cross that line.

This thread is not about discussing whether or not it should happen. That has been discussed to death on DS. I want to focus on whether people who hate the idea would stop watching if it did happen.

I'm not going to vote in the poll, but if I did, I would choose Yes. The change would be too much for me.

The Doctor is not human, but he is essentially male. Gender is not like skin colour. Gender is fundamental to personal identity, while skin colour is just a surface trait.

I would continue to watch. I think if the right actress comes along who is the best choice for playing the Doctor at that time then they should go for it. It would be an interesting change and could open up new things to explore.

So, the thread is called "would you stop watching...?" but the poll asks "will you still watch...?"

Yeah I voted No in answer to the question in the title. Should have read the question really but I doubt everyone will do that, so the poll isn't going to work.

This poll needs a 'Perhaps' option.

The most likely scenario is I'd watch the 1st episode just to confirm that they did indeed make the doctor female for misguided socio-political reasons ( NOT because the best actor for the role happened to be female) and then switch off for good.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy a female Master as much as I did.

I like shows with a female lead. Personally I hope they don't do that as, to me, it wouldn't be the Doctor any more if that happened but the concept of the show with a female lead would still be enjoyable in its own right, I reckon.

Damn I was fooled by the question as well and voted wrongly. It would be the end of Dr Who for me if they changed the sex of the character. How to finally end a programmes that has lasted over 5o years.
