Why the fuss about Heinz
I hear from people that it must be Heinz for beans, tomato sauce, spaghetti and other tin, bottled stuff.
I have not had anything from Heinz for years, but decided to buy some Spagetti hoops, beans and sausage and normal spaghetti, because i was in tescos, I needed to get some tin stuff that was quick and I have no idea What Tesco own stuff is like these days. I have now tried all three and all they is not that great, the sauce is runny and is more like water and while i know my taste buds are a bit off at the moment due to medication, the Branston beans I have got still more or less taste like what they did before. These tins of Heinz stuff had very little taste. I could not remember why I went off Heinz products, but this brings it back to me. Tasteless expensive yuk. Just a shame I have still got load of tins to go through. |

I find Heinz tomato ketchup far too sweet so I buy Asda own instead. However, when it comes to tomato soup, only Heinz will do!

I think for some items, the big branded stuff is often better. Heinz tomato ketchup is far superior to most of the other brands and supermarket own stuff, but they're not the be all and end all for everything.
Many supermarket own brands are as good as, if not better than the big brand. Some people prefer the big brand purely because they are more aware of it due to advertising etc. The only big brands I tend to buy are Heinz for ketchup, Branston for baked beans, and Yorkshire tea. Pretty much everything else I buy is supermarket own or whatever brand/name is on offer at the time. |

I always have Heinz as I was brought up on the brand . So I refuse to change as i enjoy it and see no reason to try a different brand .

I didn't have Heinz beans for years and then got some and realised how poor they now are. For me, watery and bland and in a smaller tin than other brands for more money. (the small tin with reduced salt). Obviously personal preference though

Tomato sauce i normally go for Sainsburys own, soup is Baxtors, only Tomato for me, i do not like any other. Spaghetti is normally Sainsburys own and I used to buy their own beans as well, but I prefer branston.
Going to do a bit of shopping at work tomorrow and will come back with some non-heinz stuff, |

Fantastic review of the Heinz "expensive" pasta range.
I'm sure the OP was comparing like for like and not a cooked from scratch meal. |

If your Heinz tom sauce is runny, take it back, its 'off.' Its not runny by any means.
I like Heinz and Tesco beans, don't like the cheap Branston beans though. Heinz or Baxter's tom soup are pretty good, not much difference in quality between them IMHO. |

Give it to a food bank and learn to cook. Third thing is, nothing wrong with tinned food if eaten in moderation anyway, do you really stand in front of a cooker cooking every night? |

BIB: Possibly in comparison to similar products from other brands/own brands.
I'm sure the OP was comparing like for like and not a cooked from scratch meal. I suggested they give it to a food bank and cook something rather than suffer something they find unpleasant. |

First of all I can cook, I am a trained pastry chef. Second thing is I am under going treatment for bowel cancer, which means that when I have chemo i do not feel like standing in front of a cooker cooking, so tin food is the best way to get food inside me.

Being middle class I don't think there are any products produced by Heinz that I would purchase. Certainly nothing tinned and I wouldn't have their, or anyone elses tomato ketchup in my house under any circumstances.

It has to be Heinz ketchup, I find others such as Daddies and the own brands to be too vinegary and/or watery. As for other things like beans or soup, I prefer other brands.

It's not a fuss. People just prefer certain flavours.
I keep getting told that Branston baked beans are nicer than Heinz so I tried them and found the beans too fibrey and the sauce too strong. Each to their own. I'll give anything a go but draw the line at tomato ketchup - that has got to be heinz as no other ketchup even comes close. |

When you mention you bought Heinz canned spaghetti, spaghetti hoops, sausage and beans and complain they are "tasteless, expensive yuk" - and that you have many cans left- I think I can be forgiven for assuming you don't cook much.
I'm sorry to hear of your condition. ![]() I was told to make sure I have plenty of food that is easy to make as for 3-4 days after chemo I will not feel like cooking, so I got a load of tinned, mainly heinz because they was on offer at the local Tesco and since I was there with my next door neighbours who have a car, I thought I would get a load of it. I know people have different tastes and what I may think is awful someone may love, but it just the way some people go about as it Heinz is the bees knees. |

I'm sure there are some individuals whose taste buds have been calibrated to consider Heinz the most enjoyable taste, but trying to convince most big brand nuts that another brand is better is like trying to use logic and statistics to convert a football team supporter to another team. I don't like Heinz's normal ketchup at all, and while I'm sure their baked beans used to taste nice, I now find them watery, weak-tasting and mushy. Even their tomato soup isn't the same, and I used to love that in the 70s-90s. However, I do like their organic ketchup, and I suspect the fact that it contains considerably more real tomato is the real reason, rather than how the tomatoes were grown. I noticed that they now have an 'organic' tomato soup, so I've bought a tin to see if it mysteriously tastes just how I remember the normal stuff years ago, but I'm yet to open it. It's interesting that cream is much higher up the ingredients list than the normal tomato soup, so like the ketchup, I think any difference in flavour will be down to the ingredients being better rather than how the tomatoes were grown. Otherwise, why would they change the whole recipe just for organic tomatoes? I wish they'd just be honest and label products 'premium' rather than 'organic'. Aldi do. Quote:

I've never tried Aldi's, but the tomato content is the same as normal Heinz, so I've always assumed it won't taste as nice as Lidl. I've also tried a few other brand and they're also mixed. Branston is nice but there's a certain something to the flavour which makes it not as nice as Lidl or Morrisons for me. There's also a Polish brand that is very high in tomato content, but it's too powerful a ketchup. It tastes a bit concentrated. But Lidl and Tesco are best value for money for me. |
