It seems that he has issued a very full apology and also turned himself in to the police. He is quite young so my guess would be that either he got scared because of the quite awful threats made on Twitter or his parents had rather stern words with him - or both! What he said was very stupid and he was rightly castigated for it but the threats against him and the publishing of his address on Twitter were just as moronic as his original tweet. I would have thought that a police caution would suffice now.

Anytime these tragedies happen it's awful. But these sort of grim occurrences around Christmas are just horribly depressing.

So what happened with the driver?

I saw several sick comments and jokes made by people on Facebook last night. Not people on my friend list but comments on newspaper pages etc. Why has everyone been talking about what this young lad said when there are many others who have been doing the same on Facebook?

He survived and is being interviewed by Police i assume still in Hospital but described as in a 'lucid state'.

I just hope the news is broken to him very gradual because if he did have a heart attack, he's likely to have another. I really feel for the poor guy particularly as each time Christmas approaches he will be reminded of this forever.

Only after police intervention. I reported the page last night but Facebook refused to close it.

I heard on the radio that there will be a full public enquiry.

I have to ask " WHY ? "

There will be inquests and if there is sufficient evidence to prosecute anyone there will be a court case.

I heard that a couple of people were seen jumping off the lorry before it hit everyone. His colleagues must have jumped to save themselves fearing an impact.

I love that people still think in almost 2015 people should be arrested, charged, jailed, fined for saying things they don't agree with or like.

There is a little Kim Jong-un in all of us isn't there.

I fear more if we lack the humanity to respond to these instances with at the least a basic courtesy. what sort of message are we conveying if we forsake basic manners

I am not saying the police should be involved but we need as a society to find a less indulgent response to these idiots some of whom may need help

I wouldn't be surprised if he nicked the 'joke' from Sickipedia or something in the first place.

What reason did they give you for refusal?

It wouldn't have breached their community standards.

I read a couple of posts in here saying there were two passengers in the cab but have read nothing to support that. And of course most bin wagons are manned just by a driver only and have been for years.

No idea......that's why i asked the poster who had reported it and got a refusal. Just wondered what they'd told her.

But that is only if they are working. if they were going at any speed at all then they were not emptying bins at that time.

That's what I'm telling you, not asking. The poster would most likely have got the standard message to say that they had reviewed the message / page / group and found it not to have breached their community standards.
