He's still being treated in hospital. He's in a stable condition in the Western General.

Thanks for that Woodbush.It's a horrible event at any time of the year.
Sometimes heart attacks,blackouts, happen with no warning and no chance to step on the brakes.I'm guessing this tragedy is the same.
The only other thing I can think of is.A diabetic 'trance' if he hadn't taken his medication on time.I saw a guy go into a state like that once.He just stood there,like he was on another planet.We had to give him a Mars bar and a can of Coke to bring him round.Really spooky how he just started staring into space and standing still.
If he'd been driving it would've ended in carnage.

Please justify this statement. Were you there at the time? Did you actually witness this? Or are you just talking about your impressions after watching tv footage? Please follow up on your statement.

A diabetic wouldn't still be in hospital, I suspect something much worse than that. I don't know what though.

Nothing strange about it. The police will complete their investigations, send a report to the Procurator Fiscal, who decides what, if any, prosecutions are warranted. There'll almost certainly be a Fatal Accident Inquiry. Until then I wouldn't expect any further public announcements about the details.

If the driver were intoxicated (and I haven't read anything which suggests that) then there would normally be an arrest immediately, unless his medical condition prevented him from understanding the procedure.

"The condition of a 14-year-old girl seriously hurt in the Glasgow bin lorry crash is improving, according to doctors.

She is now said to be "stable" at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where two other women injured in the crash are also being treated."

This incident is very rare, random, shocking and horrific though it is not the same as a motorway pile up which is more common that's why this thread has so many posts. Nearly everyone I know has talked about it even my family talked about it yesterday. Just like the Clutha disaster this tragedy will stay in the memories of Glasweigans particularly for a long time.

I think it will for most given the unusual type of accident, just as the Clutha helicopter accident was too and even more so being in the same city with little more than three weeks difference. It was mentioned by friends i shared dinner with yesterday just as i'm sure it was throughout the country.

My first thoughts on Christmas day morning was there are some people in Glasgow who are not going to have a nice day.

Strange this, on the BBC website it says the driver was released from hospital, but im hearing people on the street say the driver died from a heart attack.
Also very strange that nothing has been released confirming what caused the driver to lose control.

According to the papers today, he has been released from hospital and is undergoing counselling. He passed a medical check in 2012 but he DID faint at the wheel and the rest of the crew could not reach over to stop the truck. I was shocked to see that they have now named the driver too (Harry Clark) as I thought they were going to keep his identity secret. I suppose it puts paid to all the myths that he was Muslim.

Totally disgusted they have named this poor man. His address is now out there too.
