If it is a heart attack I think we'll need to have a think about certain people being allowed to drive on our roads.
Anyone with a heart condition or who is overweight could be at danger of being banned for the safety of others. |

Sorry, but as a Glaswegian I can tell you the distance between the Museum of Modern Art and the Station is not that far.

This is truly awful
sympathies to all involvedIt's the busiest time of year and right outside the train station too, a very busy crossing. There are bin lorries all the time and pedestrians are used to them around and coming up behind them, you normally wouldn't be concerned at all. |

New reports are saying that the driver was "slumped over the wheel" before the lorry crashed.
Everything about this tragedy is just heartbreaking |

According to some people on this thread, he must be a terrorist, hell bent on bringing death to Christmas shoppers. Just a tragic accident.

something similar happened in the town in ireland i grew up in, a guy driving a van had a heart attack and killed a pedestrian, not on this scale tho. what can you say, these things happen. my thoughts are with those who witnessed this terrible event and the families of those affected. as the bible says in ecclesiastes 9:11: ''I returned to see under the sun that the swift do not have the race, nor the mighty ones the battle, nor do the wise also have the food, nor do the understanding ones also have the riches, nor do even those having knowledge have the favor. Because time and unforeseen occurrence befall them all.'' Sometimes you are just in the wrong place at the wrong time...

I was there last night before I went over to edinburgh. There is a lot of my work colleagues who were there as they were working at George square.
It's horrifying and that corner is busy anyways never mind at Christmas. |

According to the BBC website the police are treating it as a traffic accident and do not suspect anything sinister. There are also reports of people seeing the driver slumped over the wheel of the vehicle.

You do realise that people who are not overweight and have no history of heart problems can have heart attacks too. People can also have strokes with no warning or an unknown aneurysm may rupture. Brain haemorrhages can happen to young people with no warning signs. The only way to stop people at risk from driving is for every driver to have a full medical every year including heart tests, MRI scans, etc, etc.
Healthy people having heart attack are very very rare, fat people and those with heart conditions having heart attacks is not that rare. You do realise that the fat and those with heart conditions are already banned from a large numbers of jobs due to the risk that they pose to the safety of themselves and others. |

It's possible that people may have initially assumed it was some sort of act of terror, particularly after what happened in Dijon just yesterday.

Everything about this tragedy is just heartbreaking Maybe they need to think about pedestrianising the whole of George Square, as part of proposed plans to redesign the area. And have bin lorries doing the rounds in very early hours when the streets are deserted. |

People with a heart condition, not on warfren, and possessing a LGV licence have to have a treadmill ECG stress test every three years and come off their meds 3 days beforehand.
Terrible as this tragedy is, it is a very rare occurrence. |

Have just seen this. Utterly devastating. My heart goes out to all there today and to those families whose lives have changed in an instant. Awful.

Respect to the people who apparently rushed to the casualties to offer aid, remarkable actions.
