Such a sad situation just before Xmas.”

It;s a well known thing in counselling that eye witnesses and people close to a tragedy feel the need to be close to the incident, or the place where those deceased spent their time (as seen when people congregate at a school when young people are killed etc). Its the mind's way of coming to terms with everything they have seen, the need to be with people who have suffered in a similar way

No, I said the following:

I've not made any assumptions as to the physical state of the driver.

I was merely making suggestions as to how this type of accident could be avoided in the future IF it turns out to be a heart attack.

Obviously, one measure would to be ban those who are high risk from driving.

Horrendous accident/tragedy.

My condolences to all the families who will be suffering with grief this Christmas.

Nice to see this thread has been pruned. Friends from Glasgow are now checking their relatives are safe.

Appalling, wasn't it? I switched over to the Beeb at that point.

I must admit my first thought when switching on the news was that I couldn't think of a worse vehicle to be trapped underneath. The smell must be horrific. Not being flippant, just think it would be awful.
I'm surprised there weren't other people in the drivers cab with him. There's normally a team of bin men working together surely?

Yes, because this is just the latest in a string of instances of refuse lorries going out of control and running over pedestrians, isn't it?

Why isnt Kay Burley on the scene getting those all important exclusives?

HGV drivers have a strict medical every three years, if they fail they have their HGV licence taken away.

Assistant Chief Constable Wayne Mawson of Police Scotland said: "Investigations continue into the circumstances of the tragic incident in George Square today. While those investigations are continuing, we can however confirm that this is not a terrorism-related incident." BBC news....
No doubt some DS detectives will say otherwise...

Given the state of HGV drivers I see at motorway service stations it can't be that strict.

It was decided that those poor folk in Glasgow had suffered enough anguish for one day.

Of course they, and BBC, won't leave them alone. Theyre 24 hour news stations. This is a major news story. They're not going to back off interviewing whoever they can get hold of to answer their questions.”

He was asked what went through his mind when it was actually happening, he replied he thought it was terrorists. If you had been paying attention it was the same bloke a few minutes earlier who had told the reporter he didn't want to talk about it, but the reporter didn't want to let him off that easily. He was trying to walk off from the reporter but the reporter just followed him and carried on with his questions. He looked visibly upset.

I don't really think you would be concerned with the smell somehow, if you were trapped under that wagon.

How often does it have to happen before it becomes an issue for you?

What that is is it's the brainwashed public. People are told to fear everything and when they see what happened today in person, a genuine accident, the public think it's something to do with terrorists which is rubbish. That's all hollywood stories they read in the papers. The guy will know now it was nothing more than an unfortunate accident.

It's probably in her contract that she won't go further than the Watford Gap this close to Xmas. I had really hoped they were going to send her to Australia to hang about outside the home where those children died the other day. At least then she would have been stuck on a plane for a few days and unable to irritate us.
