21st Century Police Box - get rid??
How I've grown up with the Tardis since the 1960's ! Police boxes were everywhere in my town of Scarborough (we had 8 if I remember correctly). We have ONE left on the seafront - kept there as a landmark!
I often worry that Doctor Who producers may decide to get rid of the Police-Box as the Tardis exterior is no longer a recognisable thing!! They could decide to make it into anything really as it is a 'Transcendentally Dimensional Thingy'! It is supposed to transform into ANYTHING anyway! Which is true! But I prefer the Tardis to be stuck as it is, and remain so! The interior can change as much as it likes (I preferred the original myself!), but PLEASE keep the Blue Box!!! Any opinions?? |

Yeah pretty much. Doubt anyone would disagree.

I don't agree...that the exterior is an unrecognisable thing. It is now universally recognised by adults and children alike as the Tardis, after all, the BBC did win ownership from the Metropolitan Police of it back in the 90s.
The image of the police box has been unrecognisable as a 'police telephone box' since the 70s. I have watched DW since 1973 and I had never seen a real one nor associated the Tardis with one. In fact, the first real one I ever saw was during a trip to Glasgow in the early 80s where is was 'the Tardis'. It would be a big mistake if it was ever changed, the police box is more than just an object now, its a symbol and not just in the DW universe. |

No, it should not be changed. It's too (to use a much over-used word) iconic for the show.
However, as a very occasional, one off story or for a few linked episodes, I don't see why it couldn't be temporarily repaired or stuck in some other shape. Flatline worked perfectly, I thought. It changed, first the scale and then the shape when the TARDIS went into siege mode. I didn't see any negative comments about that. It's also been done in the classic era, IIRC. |

I remember panicking back in 1985 when Colin Baker fixed the chameleon-circuit and it changed into some odd things (not exactly blending in!!). Relief all round at the end when it reverted back to the battered old box! Even the Doctor looked relieved....and never tried to fix it again!

Also 1960's were in the 20th century.

I don't know, if the show gets a female doctor, I'm hoping she travels in one of these ....

It's already been brought up in the series way back in 2005, Boom Town, The Doctor said the outside CAN change and that the circuit is fixed, but he kept it as is because he was fond of it, so in show wise, it never really needs to be altered, The Doctor instead fixed the TARDIS to use other techniques such as the Perception Filter and Stealth Camo.

Keep the "iconic" look and also stop all the flying through space stuff. It's supposed to dematerialise/rematerialise.

It could look like a house. And, like with Pertwee's Tardis it could get stuck on earth. Come to think of it the Doctor can dress up as a normal human being too, so why not just put the Time Lord bit into a fob watch and we can have a show about a normal man living in a house that doesn't move.
He could befriend all the people his house was stuck next to and then we'd even have lots of companions rather than just one boring one....think of that, all his neighbours could be his companions.. We could even change the name of the show to acknowledge the fact we are updating it......we could call it neighbours or Corrie or something. |
