Worried about my dog

I have a female samoyed who is 8 years old next month.

Recently she has been weeing in the house where as before she would ask if she wanted to go to the toilet outside. Yesterday my dad noticed a noticeable bald spot where it looked like she had been licking around it. I don't know if it is where she pulled it out herself from irritation if she has fleas or whether it is the start of mange but we will be keeping an eye out. She is not shedding yet so I wouldn't of thought it would be that.

I've also noticed her limping occasionally when I have took her for walks over the last few months. I don't know if it is the beginning of hip dysplasia which I have heard is a common concern for samoyeds. I'm thinking I will take her to the vets after christmas, in the mean time I have gotten her some flea remedy.

I would be a bit worried too, I think as soon as you can after Christmas is a good idea. I think I would limit exercise until she is seen too as a limp is indicating something is painful. Hope it is easily cured and not too worrying for you over Christmas - they always seem to time their problems for when the vet is closed don't they !

Yeah that's true. My dad is a bit more laid back about it. I've mentioned taking her to the vets before about her limp but she doesn't welp, it's only now and then and it doesn't stop her from running about at the park so he doesn't see it as a big concern. I think he might be worried about vet expenses but she is insured. It's just with the other two things as well I think it's time for her to have a health check.

Not all dogs yelp when hurt, I have known quite ill dogs trying to put on a happy face and please their owners still. So it may hurt but she is still trying to pretend all is OK.

when we had our boy samoyed he would often get a limp after a long walk or any running about but was fine within a couple of days.
hope she is ok as they are the most wonderful dogs

There are drugs for dogs with arthritis and it can give them a good quality of life for a further 2 or 3 years or more.

I'd be concerned about the Samoyed peeing in the house. This, in a previously clean dog, is really indicative of a problem. Where is the bald spot? It may be in an area that is giving her pain so she's "worrying" at that spot and it may be nothing to do with fleas or mange.

The weeing may possibly be down to age or any meds shes on as my cavalier before she passed never went in the house untill the last few months of her life she constintly was going pee and poop in the house it was frustrating but I put up I tried to catch her befpre she went but she was going senile and one of the meds she was on (frusemide) meant she needed a wee all the time and couldn't always catch her in time
