Has Moffat forgotten about this altogether?? Or are we to assume Clara found his parents in the time between Death in Heaven and Last Christmas?? Either way seems a bit of a strange ommission to me.

I assume he went home.

But it must be a shock to his parents a son who they thought died about 3-5 years ago in fact even more than thought died they will have seen his bullet riddled body and know for a fact he's dead.

I guess we should assume that this child knew his parents' address off by heart, and Clara had some mystical GPS device that showed her the way after the plane journey

Though I do hope Clara explained to the parents why the boy seemed to have not aged at all in the 5 or so years he had been missing.

Didn't the boy die during a firefight in Iraq or somewhere? His parents are probably dead.

Well what happened was Clara vowed to look after the boy, to be his guardian and help him deal with his extraordinary resurrection into the world years after he was supposedly killed. Sadly after about a week Clara got bored of the boy and disposed of him in the same way she did with Angie and Artie when she lost her temper with them after losing a game of scrabble. Maybe one day their bodies will be found.

While that may be the case, why bother making it such an important thing at the end of the finale if we're just supposed to assume what happened next? Makes that whole scene rather irrelevant.

That would work for me. Moffat if you're reading this, do it! :-P

It doesn't make it irrelevant.

The whole point of it was to prevent Danny coming back, it wasn't so we could see some random kid live happily ever after.

They idea was meant to be that Danny was so good and noble that he'd allow the boy to live rather than coming back himself. Still doesn't change the fact he's a character that's hardly worth watching.

Of course Moffat won't address what happened to the boy because he's not interested in it. He's getting rather notorious for just dropping fall out like that without consequence.

He grew up and joined Islamic State. Then he got blown up by allied bombs and stayed dead.

It wasn't about the boy, it was about Danny's guilt. His whole character arc was about how he'd decided to become a solider, because of his encounter with the Doctor and Clara when he was a boy. He idealised the position of a soldier who is so great, he doesn't even need a gun. He, as a naïve child, chose this as what he wanted to be. He went to war and ended up accidentally shooting a child.

This crushed him and made him alter his life. He lost faith in those who made the decisions (the officers) because they sat back and let the grunts do the tough work, whilst they got lauded as heroes. In response, he decided to abandon killing for helping children. He became a teacher. But he remained haunted by his own action that cost the life of a child.

Then he died and was confronted with the boy that he killed. Something he never thought he'd have to face in such a manner. So when it came to a chance for resurrection, he chose to undo his mistake rather than take the chance of more life for himself.

Why the boy returned is all about the conclusion of Danny's story and not about what happened to the boy next. The boy probably ended up in a foster home after Clara handed him over to social services. Its not really important.

Great post. Interesting that there's a need for it.
