He said his sleigh was "...bigger on the inside"...

... and then near the end, The Doctor said "...and this time I don't know who to thank."

So is Santa a future incarnation like The Curator and the Doctor has now forgotten him the same way other incarnations forget their adventures with their future selves until they experience it again from that future incarnation's perspective?

"X" is obviously the Rani
Back when RTD was running the show, that was funny among those fans who think RTD should still be running the show.

That is the only the time it's ever been found funny.

EDIT: ........ 2008 called, It wants it's joke back

Ah 2008, those were the days. Doctor Who just hasn't been the same since then

Don't forget that Santa only said his sleigh was bigger on the inside in the dream.

DW subconsciously speculating about what Santa might need if he was real?

Looking back I really enjoyed and looked forward to the show in 2008. Now Its just a chore. Its like going to work you don't really want to but you have too. I think the idea that santa is the rani is rather silly. I think he's the meddling monk!

Indeed. 2009 was the year I made the mistake of discussing Doctor Who on the Internet. Ever since then I've needed to carry around my "permission to enjoy" card.

I agree totally! I've never done so much thinking in my life after watching an episode since The Eleventh Hour. Before then it was relaxing.

You found "The Unquiet Dead" or "Midnight" or "Blink" or "The Girl in the Fireplace" relaxing?!

WHO was Santa?

Father Christmas.
The Doctor believed in him.

For a while during the episode I really thought Santa would end up being a more evolved version of the dream crabs because of earlier on when they were saying that the crabs only become active when they're being thought of. The more Santa is thought of in the run up to Xmas the more alive/powerful he becomes.

Agree to an extent. Not because the quality of the show is any worse, it's still just as good now, but that was the last time we had two consecutive full series of DW. Ever since then we've had split seasons, ''specials'' and seasons moved about. I tell you if Series 9 is split I will not be a happy bunny.

Whilst controversial (see the other thread!) I think I'd have liked that explanation of his existence. It fits with other modern interpretations like "Elf" where he's lost power due to people no longer believing. "Santa is a Dream Crab" also makes a great strapline...

Ah but the 'controversy' could be sorted with this explanation either the dream crab Santa wasn't the real one or just that even though he's actually a weird alien face crab he's still a good guy.

LOL Weird alien face crab people need love too! I did read that Moffat said he wouldn't do "Santa is evil/an alien" but I think he missed a trick there. Still think Santa = Time Lord is as good an explanation as any!

For a while, I thought he was the Meddling Monk, trying to make amends for some of the terrible things he's done.

Presumably then at the start of the 10th Series either Clara or The Doctor will step out of a shower...

WHO was Santa?
WHO was the grumpy Scottish guy, Santa was the fat guy in red

Is the Internet real though, or are we just dreaming it

I thought it was obvious. Santa was all a figment of the respective victims imaginations while in the dream state.
