Just re-watched the slap scene and noticed that Clara slaps the doctor on the left cheek but the doctor holds his hand to his right cheek.
Obviously, this mistake means that Peter Capaldi doesn't actually get slapped.

Or the slap was so hard is resonated all the way through his face.

Possibly although I find the question a bit iffy. Would we be saying that Clara was asking for it if he hit her? I find it odd that he never retaliates or looks close to be violent towards her; I think that would redress the balance.

It is wrong if men can't and shouldnt be violent towards women women should not be violent towards men. Other ways of expressing feelings even bad ones or putting a point across .

You find it odd that he never slaps her back?! It's supposed to be a family show. No-one should be slapping anyone!

Moffat seems to have a real hard-on for this. It makes me wonder if he invested in any luxury dungeon sessions this festive season Amy was basically a domestic abuser to Rory, and now Clara gets in on it too. Slapping is not a sign of a 'Strong Woman' and it's yet another un-healthy message for watching kids.

I agree. If a male character treated a female the way Amy treated Rory, he'd be seen as an abusive, chauvinist pig.

But Clara is different.
If Amy slapped me, I'd slap her back!
If Clara slapped me, I'd beg for more!

I don't remember it too much though (a few standout times) under RTD but Smith certainly got his fair share of batterings from River, Amy and (I think) a few more.

Exactly. All this told us was the doctor dreams about Clara slapping him, and from this thread it's clear he's not alone

Amy was a good companion but I hated the way she used to berate, belittle and humiliate Rory!

Just once, when she slapped him round the back of the head and said "Rory, you idiot!", he should've grabbed her by her stupid ginger locks and slammed her against a wall. Then, pushing his face right up against hers, he could snarl;
"Don't you dare EVER slap me again, tramp! I know you betrayed me! I know you tried to sleep with the Doctor on the night before our wedding, Scottish strumpet! Do you think I waited 2,000 years for THIS?!! Do you know how long that is?! Do you know how many women I could've had in that time?! Two-freakin-Millennia and you treat me like sh**! Well, I'm not having it anymore! Do ya hear me?! You better start showing me some long overdue respect or I swear I'll put you back in that box!

The ease with which Moffat writes his female characters being violent/unpleasant towards the male characters is something I find profoundly distasteful. Who knows, maybe in series 9 the Doctor will give Clara a back-hander (you know, in the name of equality) and tell her not to touch him again, but somehow I doubt it.

Unfortunately Moffat's personal little pecccadillos seem to surface much too frequently in his scripts. It's obvious from the way that he writes his female/male characters. It's rancid and unsavoury and really has no place in a family TV show.

The sensible person in me thinks that it's a disgrace these females keep abusing their male counterparts with it being made to look funny and the woman to be strong and feisty. But the severe perv in me would love the regular slaps from both Clara and Amy along with other tailored methods.

Yeah, it was a dream, but it was scripted. Stating the obvious here, but it wasn't a real dream! The question to answer is would the Doctor ever be shown hitting Clara, in a dream or otherwise?

Not sure Clara deserves a backhander.... yet. But it would be interesting to take things old-school; like in black-&-white films when the woman becomes hysterical and the man slaps her back to sanity.

I always saw it as Amy never really liked let alone loved Rory but as The Doctor didn't want her in that way he would have to do and lets face it who else would put up with her.

But she seemed to want to punish Rory because he wasn't The Doctor.

I have always said though if Rory treated Amy the way she treated him there would be complaints from viewers and domestic abuse charities.

Even my Mum who watched a bit who was a batted wife said Amy was nothing more than a domestic abuser

Amy loved Rory, just took a whole lotta stuff inbetween for her to recognise his love for her.Rory was there for Amy from the start, sometmes love needs to be recognised, not always straightforward.
