The Joan Chamorro Quintet are part of his Sant Andreu Jazz Band, a mostly youth band from Barcelona, they are a mixture of a few seasoned professionals young instrumentalists and teen-aged vocalists/instrumental soloists, all under twenty years of age. Very popular in their home country of Spain, both at concerts and on TV.
They play "old fashioned," jazz standards. and employ no expensive stage costumes, for the most part, more, "wear what you like."

On some recordings they're titled Motis Chamorro Quintet, she's so important to the band. I can see her becoming a solo artist.

It amazes me that they have such versatility, singing and at least a couple of instruments, for most..

Motis' ability to play both alto and soprano sax, (totally different fingering to play the same tune in the same key and many saxophonists, combine tenor with soprano as the fingering's the same) as well as the trumpet is impressive.
When one girl takes the lead, the others are back in the orchestra. Just like it would be in the big bands of yesteryear.

I'm impressed with Chamorro, in that he's made the kids aware to this type of jazz and you can see they appreciate and enjoy playing it. I'm sure the adult performers with decades of experience behind them are a great help to the younger ones.

I like to listen to Scott Hamilton's tenor playing and particularly Josep Traver on guitar, whose style is reminiscent of jazz guitarists of the fifties and early sixties, like Barney Kessel and Barry Galbraith etc.,.

Traver's playing is so understated in this performance. Six string and "inside" chords, so beyond the capability of your average pop "guitar thrasher."

If it weren't for YouTube, we'd be denied the chance of ever becoming aware of some really talented contemporary singers and musicians, as they don't fall into the category of "pop."
Young people can't be blamed for having such a narrow perspective when it comes to popular music. The record companies aren't really interested in promoting other genres.

Most contemporary jazz musicians can play any style of music.

I'm an admirer of (amongst many others) Natalie Cressman, a jazz trombonist and vocalist with her own band. She can also turn her hand to pop. I love her singing this.

It shows that young people can apply themselves, certainly in Barcelona. The way they are presented for the most part, you can see they don't spend a lot on wardrobe.

There's a documentary somewhere on YouTube (commentary all in Spanish) but you see the little kids before a concert, unattended, in a far from modern toilet/washroom, cleaning their brass instruments themselves. I don't think any of them come from wealthy families.
What I like is there's absolutely no hype and all the audiences are well behaved and respectful. Puts a lot of what goes on in this country, to shame.

I think you're right, they seem to look alike. Juaume Ferrer is listed as the clarinetist in this later video, he'd be nineteen then.

I think there's a few brothers and sisters in that band, Magali Datzira, the singer/bass player's sister Iscle, is listed as on tenor sax.
