Just looking at that Sketches of Catalonia album I played 'So What' and it's a different version than the 'So What' that we've had linked to on here before with the Sant Andreu big band
Different soloists and appears to include an electric guitar solo ?......I'm not very good at recognising instruments ! I had assumed that some of these tracks were just the ones that we've had before but I think I'll play the whole album tomorrow to see if all the tracks are different versions |

Another (but incomplete) version of "Poor Butterfly" by Andrea Motis videod on a mobile phone last year, but only just uploaded. As I mentioned before, this tune has a long introduction, which is hard for any singer, even Sarah Vaughan had a bit of a struggle with it. But the tune is worth the wait.
Carla Motis on guitar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKB6scjnPaQ Here's her recorded version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-RTFIDES9A But this is my favourite version by Cannonball Adderley, on an album I bought many decades ago, as a teenager. It's "old fashioned, modern jazz. Play the tune straight, then improvise a solo, then one from a "side man" then return to the tune for the last chorus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mT1f-ZO75w8 |

Another Chamorro upload.
Rita Payes singing and playing trombone this old jazz standard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4RH4aZN5L4 My favourite version of this was by Bunny Berigan, recorded in 1937. Died in 1942 at the age of 33 from cirrhosis. What a waste of a great talent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_u7x-Q3oTjQ |

I'm still mainly listening to that Sketches of Catalonia album and that's leading me to the later Miles Davis Jazz-Rock fusion which I thought I wouldn't like but I'm getting into it..........slowly !

Try "Miles Smiles," that takes some listening to!
The full album is on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiCs...ACF5DD5C3AEFFD I've listened to most of the ones up to the early 60s........then I've skipped ahead and listened to some of the more rock influenced later albums The middle ones have escaped me so far.........but I'll put that one next on my list just read about it on wiki and it sounds good ! |

Another upload from Joan Chamorro, a concert performance of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band.
He's giving a couple of young tenor players a chance to shine. The "usual suspects" Carla, Rita, Eva and Magali are in the Orchestra. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq3u5Pls0s4 More Andrea Motis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZIZuuXVUOg |

Thanks for that. Never thought much of Jamie Cullum, to be honest, in my opinion, he's a; "Tonight Matthew, I'm gonna be.." sort of performer... |

Another version of 'Moody's Mood for Love' with Dick Oatts doing the sax solo and Eva, Andrea and Magali sharing the vocals
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbUPOPatVNY It's good........it's a wonderful song But I prefer the earlier version with Scott Hamilton and Andrea..........which is still my favourite of all the Sant Andreu videos. This is stunning..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWxriapsDes |

There's an earlier version of Moody's, with Andrea, Eva, Magali and Rita all taking turns to sing. But this latest one you linked is better
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEIzgNype8w Andrea has sung it on another recording too. But the original which you linked I too think is still the best It's noticeable that these uploads are getting a lot of hits in just a few days. |

Some more uploads from Joan Chamorro, Andrea Motis, with the "big band."
Josep Traver, getting a rare guitar solo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HkNIUY3xZc In this one Marc Martin gets a mention and a solo. As a pianist, he's been in the background in a lot of videos previously posted. He has a nice relaxed style. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1ppw5ckhGo |

Cheers.......
I like the first one better. I think Marc is a terrific pianist. He played the piano solo on the cover of 'So What' which is one of my favourites https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJgbzZAjcLE As for the other one it's a bit lounge music isn't it ?........

Recorded on a phone camera.
Not often now you see the Motis sisters, Fernandez and Pays playing and scat singing on the same small stage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1uYN96RYBo |

I notice that it's referred to as 'The Rita Payes Quartet'............
![]() Doesn't appear to be a lot of ego amongst the girls...........they all seem happy to take it in turns to be the 'named leader'. |

More Marc Martin (and more beard!)
Andrea Motis on soprano sax, playing "Dixieland," is there no end to this girl's ability? Good all-round performance from this sextet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUIeZniL9A0 |

Andrea Motis
Shades of Miles Davis muted trumpet in this performance, but not quite as clean, nevertheless I was impressed.

Re-watching the video I linked, I noticed Andrea Motis was playing a trumpet that she only occasionally uses. This has the normal three piston valves, but also a short "slide valve."
This feature enables the player to get a truer sounding D and Db. |
