I have a seven year lab - in great health. For the last seven or eight days, he has been sick once or twice a day, usually around 3pm. . Just yellow bile, with grass mixed in.

Otherwise he is fine - happy, playful and enjoying his food. He has a biscuit in the morning and Iams light around 4pm. Because of this, I have avoided giving him any human treats at all this year.

He seems absolutely fine in everyway - except for the regular afternoon upchucking!
If it continues, will have to take to the vets, but not sure what I can tell them. Any thoughts?

Have you changed his food?

I was warned off IAMS, its got a bit of a rep for causing vomiting and stomach upsets

I would take him to the vets asap tbh, vomiting daily for over a week needs looking into.

My dogs been doing the same thing the last few days. Usually in the early morning. If hes ok other wise I wouldnt worry to much unless he starts doing it all the time. I thnk its a change of food like hes had a far bit of turkey which he isnt used to.

Yellow bile indicates the fact that your dogs stomach is empty which can sometimes be the problem in itself, I would feed him at more regular intervals for a week and see how that goes if it continues he mAy have eaten something he shouldn't have so check he is pooing properly as well. Definite see a vet if he does not improve with multiple meals over a couple of days

Thanks for all the replies. He has been on Iams for several years and no problems.
It might be an idea to feed him twice a day - but being a lab, he has an internal clock and knows exactly when he is due his meal or a treat. The routine is dinner at 4pm and a dental rask at 8pm!

Otherwise, I am careful with his diet. I sort of inherited him when he was four and grossly over weight. Last vet check up he was almost at decent size. He is such a wonderful darling that I am trying so hard to make sure he is healthy for as long as possible.

Then take him to see a vet if you re that concerned.

I would take him to a vet. There could be something underlying or could be nothing but best to get him checked out.

Just a passing idea - has your dog possibly been able to access Christmas decorations, like holly or mistletoe at all?

This sounds to be more than one of those temporary upsets we all know and love.
In my dog, vomiting bile was indicative of a liver malfunction. Though we had poor appetite as well. Our first diagnostic tests were blood tests and an ultrasound.
It might be helpful to take a stool sample to the vets.

As Molliepops aged she needed smaller meals more often or she would do this too. I now always give 3 meals a day and biscuit before bed to them all. Thriving on it and Labradors don't care when the food is as long as you keep it coming I am finding with Elsie LOL.

Worth trying. Nothing works quite as well as we age. My collie now has no choice but to have 4-5 meals a day. Would still get tests done though.

My opinion is opposite try the diet if it works all to the good if not then visit the vet. No point having tests if the answer is food.

But if the dog's digestion is not working well it could be the early signs of liver disease or other health problems and the sooner these things are caught the better. I don't believe in rushing to the vets for every little thing but if it is persistent it needs checking out. A simple blood test will reveal something like elevated liver values and indicate whether or not any other tests are required.
Whether or not smaller more frequent meals sort it, I think it would be wise to rule out anything more serious.

Have to agree to differ on this one, had 3 dogs who have been like this all cleared up by changing number of meals. I don't like putting mine through tests and most vets are far too quick IMO to start testing for things.

Maybe I'm just more aware as I have a dog with liver problems and know how insidious the start of these things can be. If she hadn't been tested she wouldn't be here today. We'll have to agree to differ methinks

Yes it's just we have different experiences I think, I wouldn't hesitate to go to the vet if I was worried but changing the diet works instantly so the delay in vet treatment would be days at most if I found it didn't work.

I wonder where the OP went. It would be interesting to get an update.

Happens too often people ask for help then disappear, we never know what happened.

Sorry guys - been away for a couple of days, with dog! Very grateful for all the posts and support. At the moment, he had been fine for the last two or three days. I think in the end, he got fixated on eating grass - and bringing it up later. I've been monitoring him carefully - and he is eating, pooping and his usual bundle of energy. So again - thank you . This really is a great forum for pets.

If it is any consolation Susan my girl was passing very wet poop. This went on for 3 days. I have to be careful because of her health problems but one day she passed a tangle of grass! Sorted.

Yes and my experience is they wait for a weekend or a bank holiday to get ill.

Oh don't they just! Emergency night vets that demand £100 off your credit card before even seeing you. Plus the new year night my (black) cat's tail got trapped in a door - imagine the cost of an op on New Year's Day! Jet is still fine and we are all looking forward to a great 2015. Really I think that if he is throwing up bile one hour before his one meal of the day then he is being sick with hunger.
