Is there a forum on DS that deals with cordless landline phones, because I have four Siemens Gigaset C59H, all of which have shut down suddenly, without warning, on a regular basis, even though the battery symbol showed a fully charged condition. They use either Maplin or Panasonic rechargeable AAA's, so I don't think it is the batteries themselves. I'm inclined to think it is oxidisation of the recharging pins, either in the handset itself or in the base. I'm guessing that this forum is for mobile phones only, so I apologise for this intrusion. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction for discussing cordless phones (if there is one), or name some makes and models that have a good reputation for reliability. They must also have loud, clear, speaker-phone performance. Thanks, D.

How old are they? We have Gigaset phones in our office with the original batteries and they perform flawlessly.

Personally, I think the Siemens phones are the best ones going, but you can see a wide selection of reviews at www.ligo.co.uk.

We have a Gigaset phone as well and not had any problems with them.

They aren't part of Siemens any more though - they are a separate company now.

The landline phones forum is a sub-forum of Broadband Internet, in the Entertainment Services section. There is a link to it on the main page.

I have the same set. I found that replacement batteries don't seem to last more than 6-12 months. I just replace them as AAA batteries are relatively cheap. This has worked each time I've had this issue. It might work better with a certain type, but I tend to use NiMH. One of my handsets is on a timer (6 hours on time per day) which has lasted 2 years on one set of batteries.

It probably doesn't help that many cordless phone users never use the batteries to their fullest, they might use a few percent of its capacity but then put it right back on the base station to recharge after the call is finished.

I doubt that cordless phones have particularly advanced battery chargers to properly handle the batteries
