Which characters do you feel have been overused, and which ones do you feel haven't been given much of a chance this year?

Is this about to turn into another Carter-bashing thread?

But as I bring them up, I feel Johnny and Nancy were underused.

I actually think the show had a lot more balance this year, as opposed to last year when Lauren was literally never off the screen.

Lola and Billy have perhaps been a bit underused.

I'm not bashing here but Mick and Linda have been overused and need to be rested.

Ronnie, Shirley, Stan, Denise, Babe, Carol, the Cottons, Ian/Beales, Mitchells, Moons have all been used the right amount.

Lola and Billy as said above have definitely been underused. Cora could also be used more but I don't know if her lack of screen time is because of Ann.

The balance hasn't been that bad this year, it is the block story-telling that is the problem.

Agreed. As we've been discussing in the other thread, if they sorted out the dreadful block story-telling then none of the characters would feel over/underused. I am a bit biased because I like the Carters, but I can see that they have featured a lot, just like the Brannings did from 2011-2013.

BIB: I disagree that they've been overused, but I do think that some time away from them is a good thing. Shirley's disappearance during the fall helped revitalize her character a bit, and I think that could help with Linda and Mick too. The only problem is that it seems Mick's parentage/the rape reveal has just kicked the storyline into gear. Putting them to rest for awhile seems premature at this point, even if it is needed.

I agree on everyone else except Lola. I've never really warmed to her and don't really see the point in keeping her around.

I think the Carter family as a unit have been overused, and what I mean by that is the constant episodes where they're the sole focus (i.e. Stan's Birthday, Linda's Birthday, Nancy's birthday) But don't feel that Mick or Linda have been overused.

I think Johnny was used just the right amount, to be honest, (he's a new character, played by an inexperienced actor, he had the right story lines to build him up) but Nancy could have been used a bit more.

I think Kat has been underused - in that most of the Moon story lines seem to be told from the point of view of Alfie. I don't think Jessie Wallace has had the most opportunity to act.

The rest of it I think has been about ok.

With the reveals I agree that now isn't really the right time for them to be rested but I do think that they have been at the forefront very much this year and do need to be toned down slightly. A break could help revitalise them and would be a good thing.

Agreed, I think the block story-telling is what makes characters feel over/underused. If they ran stories simultaneously, it wouldn't be a problem. They also mainly keep stories confined to groups of characters, it would be nice to see different interactions on the square.

Agreed as well. I don't think the Carters should get a big billing next Xmas, for example.

Exactly so. There is no nuances between different plots because they run one after the other, which hinders characters who would never normally interact fro,m having 'moment's or even proper friendships, even if it was just small conversations in the Vic, a cup of coffee in the cafe etc. It's like when one set of characters is 'on' the rest are there to provide apathy or scenery.
