They played Sun City in South Africa when Apartheid was still in full force.

Not sure what that has to do with neo nazi's though????

I've never understood how queen got a free pass for playing Sun City when most other big acts were saying absolutely not. To this day I wouldn't have a queen record in my house.

Alesha Dixon who appeared as a contestant and won Strictly Come Dancing to stay within the realms of displaying some talent. Then subsequently outed Arlene Philips to become one of the show's judges. Simon Cowell then pops up shows her some £ signs and goes onto Britain's Got Talent.

Didn't The Who and Rod Stewart do the same?

None of them needed the money and they could hardly claim they didn't know what was happening there at the time

Shameful! No excuse

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Elaine Page, Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Linda Ronstadt, Julio Iglesias, The O'Jays, Ray Charles, Boney M., Black Sabbath, Tina Turner, Dionne Warwick, Status Quo...... all played Sun City and I'm sure there were others. I wonder if that changes anyone's views on theses artists?

On the other hand Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, Jimmy Cliff, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Run DMC, U2 and many others were on a record against playing Sun City (organised by Little Steven).

I,I,I,I,I,I.....aint gonna play Sun City.

Then again maybe we should keep politics out of pop music?

Does anyone really believe apartheid would have ended any sooner if these acts hadn't played Sun City? The Free Tibet movement was briefly popular in the nineties but few artists speak out now so they aren't shut out of the Chinese market.

I guess it's an issue about principle and hypocrisy rather than outcome.

But you're right hypocrisy is alive and well throughout pop music.

Bono Vox and Bob Geldof.
I don't think a further explanation is needed.

Also Lady Gaga, she is just incredibly pretentious and contradictory person.

There is of course a lot of hypocrisy in the music industry, but these three stand out to me.

Chris Martin- all Eco green friendly but travels in first class air.

Agreed, and I'm still not sure how advertising something makes Lydon a hypocrite anyway? I don't recall him ever railing against musicians who advertise things in the past.

In their defence, they did play to a mixed race audience at the time, not an all white one.

The ideology was similar to Hitlers Nazi Germany. The main difference was the 'whites' needed the 'non whites' for the slave labour that enabled them to have the lifestyle they had.
The number one reason why that evil regiem came to an end was the cultural and sporting boycott. Queen didn't give a stuff because there was money to be made.
Freddie's family would have been second class citizens in that country but he chose to turn a blind eye to that. Shame on the man.

And slagged The Beatles off for taking drugs and been a bad influence, and "anti-American", while he was popping pills and singing some of their songs on stage.

I think the changing world economy and end of the cold war might have been more significant factors.

The best hypocrite of all, the general public.

Happy to slag off Gary Glitter and his ilk, but Jimmy Page is fine because he "only raped and kidnapped a 13 year old girl in the 70s, when it was all normal for a man in his 30s to do that". Great stuff.

Does he travel first class on commercial flights or does he have a private jet? If its the latter then yes, but I don't see a problem with the first one. A little OT Leo decaprio always bangs on about being Eco but he mostly uses private jets.

The Kiss reunion tour with all four original members was 1996 - that was deemed the farewell tour, and really should've stopped afterwards.

In 1992 Kiss were touring the Revenge album.

It is true though Roger Taylor said that the band told the organisers. They would not go if it was going to be a white only audiance.

It ended up being mainly white and now Roger regrets they went now. He said we went for the reason of entertaining people but it ended up being seen as us going for the wrong reasons.

However you have to ask what was a 14 year old doing in a LA nightclub which is where he met her. Not excusing it but there's two sides to every story. Lori Maddox has also admitting to losing her virginity to David Bowie. His wife at the time Angie Bowie was also involved in the affair.

I don't how true the story is but Eric Clapton has been described as a supporter of Enoch Powell and reported to have issued a racist diatribe at a gig in Birmingham(?) back in the 70s.

Considering his career is based on playing the music of black people this does seem a bit rich.

Sex with an underage girl is statutory rape and Page hid her away until she was old enough. Not sure what the other side of the story would be?

And there's Bill Wyman and Mandy Smith (48 and 13) at time of meeting.

I suppose in their defence you have to say that Page and Wyman were not serial offenders like Glitter (and Saville).
