I have just purchased a Denon Sound bar DHT-S514 and a Samsung TV UE48H6400, can anybody tell me in simple terms how to connect it. I had it connected with HDMI cable from sound bar to TV and it was working, but now I cannot get it to work. When I do the speaker settings on the TV the options that come up are audio out and TV, I rang Samsung and they told me the Receiver option should come up, it is there but it is not highlighted so I cannot click on to it. He reckons I need to do something to the sound bar to get the tv to recognise it. Please help, I have been at this for two days and my patience is wearing thin. A quick start guide came with the sound bar along with a CD manual but I cannot get the CD to work either to tell me what if anything I am doing wrong. It was working as my husband pressed a button and it worked, however we do not know which button and now I am just thoroughly confused. I have disconnected it all so I can start again from scratch

Have you at some point moved the lead from one HDMI socket on the TV to another? At a guess, only the first HDMI socket will have the ARC support needed for it to work with the soundbar.

I have a Samsung HU7500 , and I have my peripherals (Sky, BluRay) connected to soundbar, then a hdmi from soundbar to hdmi4 (which is ARC) on the TV. When wishing to watch TVwith soundbar audio I select "receiver"

I have the hdmi cable connected from sound bar out to hdmi2 arc on the tv, my sky hd box is just connected to tv with hdmi cable. I am so lost here, I shall be back need a coffee. I would be so grateful if someone can help and I need it explained in simple terms

Switch off both TV and soundbar.

Switch TV ON
Switch soundbar ON

Now see if the receiver option is available. Sometimes the HDMI handshaking doesn't work properly and needs a kicking to get the two devices talking nicely to each other.

So press the TV button and check how many flashes you see. You need it on "TV" (2 flashes) to work.

That should only be necessary if the TV cannot pass audio from the other HDMI ins to the ARC channel.

If you can get audio from the TV from it's built in tuner (assuming you have an aerial connected) then try the Sky box plugged into the TV. If that does not work then try the Sky box into the soundbar HDMI in.

This is the bit I am not understanding, I do not know how to select HDMI on the sounbar or select HDMI2 on the TV. I have all the cables unplugged at the moment, this is so getting me down

Yes according to the manual.

So you are telling me the cable goes to the HDMI in, so what is the HDMI out for on the sound bar?

You then need to turn the hdmi control on in the tv's menu. You may need the tv's manual to see how to do this or look through all the tv's settings.

No, sorry, I got it wrong in my first post. I then editted it. According to the manual, you should use the HDMI out on the Denon to the hdmi arc on the television.

The manual I linked to above for the soundbar tells you how to select the inputs on the soundbar.

You simply press the "TV" button on the soundbar remote and if it flashes twice it has selected the "TV" ARC channel. If it flashes four times it has selected the HDMI in.

Ignore the TV for now as you should only have the HDMI from the soundbar HDMI OUT plugged into the HDMI IN on the TV that is also labelled ARC.

Press the "TV" button on the sound bar remote so that it flashes twice to select the TV ARC.

Tune the TV into some channel or other and use the soundbar remote to adjust the volume and see if you can hear anything. If you have an aerial connected to the TV use a Freeview channel for this test rather than Sky. It is almost certain that a Freeview channel will appear on the ARC channel so get that working first. Then switch to Sky and see if that also sends audio to the soundbar.

If it does then job done.

My hubby is watching the darts at the moment, so I will do all this later, I have not being paying attention to that sound bar remote, this might be the problem. No doubt I shall return but thank you all very very much for your help for the moment, I didn't realise the sound bar remote had any significance other than turning the volume up and down. If I get stuck I shall be back xxx

If you had pressed the "TV" button (or one of the others) on the remote then you would have switched input away from the TV. So that would be the first thing to double check. From what I can see there is nothing on the soundbar itself to tell you what input you have selected which is a bit of a pain in the wotsits
