The year that was 2014. What a year it was for the show!

January:

The New Year got off to a bang with Ronnie killing Carl and Nancy's wedding being gate-crashed by Mick, Linda & Johnny who weren’t going to let their daughter/sister throw her life away.
Nancy punches Dexter
There was more drama for the Carters a few days later when Johnny came out to his parents in one of the most memorable scenes of the year. It was a sign of things to come in DTC’s reign. 2014 saw EastEnders regain its balls.

Viewers got the shock of their lives when Jane made a surprise return in early January. We knew there was a big story coming for the Beales but I don’t think anyone foresaw just how big it would be. DTC has shown time and time again that he isn’t afraid to take risks.

January was also the start of a big story for Carol who was diagnosed with breast cancer. The show put their own spin on it with the added worry that Carol had given the BRCA gene to her own daughters.

The Dennis reveal finally happened and we had a new pregnancy story in the form of Cindy although the show did keep us guessing with the pregnancy test discovery in the Butchers’ bin. Thankfully Bianca wasn’t adding to her brood.

We also had the Jake/Lauren reveal of their affair. Lauren repeating the same mistakes as her own mother and Stacey. Poor Bella’s family was broken up and she and her mum left the Square for good.

Stan Carter's debut was one of the best episodes of the month and saw the introduction of the fantastic Timothy West.

Carol dealt with her cancer diagnosiswith the help of her family.

February:

February saw more Carol/David scenes and it was clear that the show weren’t going to shy away from the ugly realities of cancer.

Masood punched Tamwar as his break-up with Carol and return of his daughter led him to have a mini breakdown.

Danny exited which had Penter shippers all over DS sobbing into their pillows.

We were treated to the return of Santer’s golden girl, Stacey Slater and she dominated the month with her return story.

The market protest provided some great community scenes and a Shirley/Tosh catfight was satisfying for Shirley haters.

Stacey had plenty of scenes. Some with Lauren & Cora, Max and Luke broke up with her as he realised she wasn’t called Jenny and was a murderer.

March:

In March, Ronnie and Roxy returned to more drama with Ronnie confessing to Roxy that she killed Carl and Phil/Sharon/Shirley all finding out too.

The mysterious Charlie Cotton made his debut informing Dot that his dad, Nick, had died.

It was Ronnie v Whites when they kidnapped Lexi. DTC treated us to another great Janine exit and Stacey confessed to killing Archie with the help of Lorde.

Nick's fake funeral saw everyone gather to support Dot despite everyone hating his guts. They struggled to hide their true feelings and Ian gave a nice eulogy unaware of the tragedy he was about to face.

A mystery figure punched Mick and we later found out that it was his son, Lee.

April:

April saw Stan move into The Vic and the reveal of Lucy’s lover.

The Albert opened in the old salon set.

Ronnie knocked Lola down leading her to remember Danielle and she ended up sleeping with Charlie.

The Beales had happy family scenes. **TRAGEDY ALERT*

Dean returned with a dark streak that his 2008 exit teased.

Lucy's last day alive was eventful as she had numerous encounters and Ronnie & Roxy held an unseen house warming party which proved a great alibi for many.

Lucy's body is found leading to some heartbreaking Beale scenes as Ian tells them she has died.

Peter & Lauren bonded in the wake of her death and even Phil showed his human side with Ian, #Phian.

Ian/Jane had grief sex before Jane fled the Square in her blue Micra. Denise had a great breakdown but youtube don’t seem to have it.

Tonia kissed and showed that Naomi mightn’t have just been a phase for Walford’s worst nurse.

May:

David/Max worked together in the wake of Lucy’s death to get rid of some incriminating evidence from the car lot and the police made their first arrest with Jake Stone becoming the first suspect. His interview was a special online scene.

Lauren/Peter continued to get close.

Mick punched Dean upon his arrival for being mean to Shirl.

Peter kept Lucy company in the mourge.

Lucy's funeral saw Ben and Adam give emotional performances as Max was revealed as her secret lover.

The Shirley/Mick reveal almost gave Phil another heart attack.

Speaking of heart attacks, David had one on his wedding day to Carol which didn’t go ahead in the end.

Carol/David danced to Misty Blue before he left the Square again.

June:

Peter and Lauren looked for the Good Friday taxi driver while Honey departed after a short stay leaving Janet in Billy's care.

The lesbian domestic abuse storyline hotted up when Tosh shoved Tina as tensions rose between the couple.

Phil’s bid for control backfired when Sharon was attacked and we also had the return of his junkie friend, Rainie. Working as a prossie to get her fix, it turns out she slept with Captain Beale on Good Friday. The aftermath provided some great drama.

Ronnie had a gun and was unusually happy before revealing to Phil that she was pregnant. She left the Square again hoping to leave behind her dark demons.

Linda put the crows out of business. leading her to confront her past, while Mick confronted his fear and Johnny went to Pride.

July:

The Carters spiced up Linda's birthday while Roxy got revenge on Aleks.

Billy became a suspect and Pam found photos of Lucy behind his fridge.

Peter attacked Billy when he learned he was the new suspect.

Ian threatened Rainie as she blackmailed him over his dirty sex secret.

Patrick suffered a stroke after finding out about Ian & Rainie and we had the surprise return of his son, Anthony.

Carol and Tina clashed over some hash cakes and Sharon Watts was back! She discovered Phil was behind the attack and plotted revenge with Marcus Christie.

Carol found out Nick was alive as she prepared for her mastectomy.

August:

Jean returned and was struggling to care for Lily.

Mick swam at the gala but his happiness was short lived when he was arrested for soliciting a brass although he was trying to help Ian.

Kat's waters broke and she gave birth to twins, Bert & Ernie.

Cora & Rainie came face to face once more and Cora told everyone about Mick's arrest.

Lauren & Lola argued as each tried to support Peter on the day of the press conference.

Phil & Rainie also came face to face once more as Phil found out about Ian’s secret and decided to home her in Hev’s old flat.

Linda slapped Dean as he got too close for comfort.

September:

Blink and you'll miss Ryan as he watched Stacey and Whitney from the shadows.

Sharon v Shirley as Sharon prepared to marry Phil.

Alfie’s scheme went wrong when Kat returned to the house and got caught in the house fire.

Ben returned and didn’t get a warm reception from everyone, Dean punches Ben.

Peggy made a cameo ordering Ronnie to stop the Mitchell wedding.

Phil & Sharon married, Shirley didn’t take it too well….

October:

Shirley shot Phil in a move that Lisa Shaw would have been proud of.

Linda suffered a terrible ordeal at the hands of Dean during the longest wedding day in Walford history.

The rape aftermath proved a distressing watch as we urged Linda to tell someone. She couldn’t even tell her own mum, Linda/Elaine.

Kat came home from hospital and Alfie resorted to squatting.

Newcomer Kush made an impression on the ladies.

Nick returned and came face to face with his old ma once more.

November:

Abi attacked Lauren as her bid to scare with a Weeping Angel mask failed.

Pam revealed her secret, well she kind of did.

Kat & Stacey fell out as Stacey didn’t want to break up another family.

Lee punched Ben when he was homophobic to Johnny and Linda attacked Dexter when she was reminded of her ordeal.

Dean and Mick unwittingly brought their dad Buster to the Square much to Shirley's horror.

Denise made a discovery at the allotments and Ben had some explaining to do.

December:

It was Peter v Ian when Peter was exposed as Lucy's drug dealer.

Tosh attacked Tina and left the Square.

Sylvie Carter made her debut played by the brilliant Linda Marlowe.

It was Phil v Nick when Ian informed Sharon and Phil he was alive.

Kat found out Alfie started the fire and couldn’t forgive him.

Linda/Stacey bonded over similar experiences. Stacey urged her to tell Mick.

Johnny left the Square on his scooter deciding to spread his wings.

The rape reveal rocked the Carter Christmas and led Shirley to reveal that Mick is her son. Mick smashed up the Vic after a Christmas to remember for all the wrong reasons.

Kim returned to a much changed Albert Square.

Best Actor- Timothy West (Stan)
Best Actress- Kellie Bright (Linda) and it was much harder to pick just one from the female category to be honest.
Best Storylines- 1. Linda's rape and aftermath. 2. Patrick's stroke. 3. Johnny coming out.
Worst Storylines- 1. Aleks secret. 2. Love pentagon - Jay/Abi/Peter/Lola/Lauren. 3. Ians sex secret.
Episode of the Year- 1. 26/12 Aftermath of Carter revelations. 2. 22/4 Ian tries to deal with the news/tell his family. 3. 28/8 Cindy gives birth.
Best Newcomer- Rakhee Thakrar - Shabnam Masood
Best Exit- Janine Butcher (for the final scene alone)
Villian of the Year- Queen Ronnie Mitchell.
Return of the Year- Stacey Slater.
Most Improved Character- Nancy Carter, she was really dislikeable at first before I got to see how natural the actress was.
Most Overused Character- Have to go with Mick, the distance between him and the others on the character count is too much and it's not even like quite a few of his appearances were just minor scenes in the pub serving.
Most Underused Character- Lola Pearce!! And I severly hope the rumours about
Spoiler
are false as I think the character still has a lot more to give.
Best Young Actor/Actress- Mimi Kene (Cindy) because she's incredible for her age and has created a very believable character from her performances.
Best Wedding Sharon and Phil has I can't really remember much of the other two.
Sexiest Actor- Ben Hardy (Peter)
Sexiest Actress- Jacqueline Jossa (Lauren) but Stacey's a very close second.
Funniest Character- Maddy Hill (Nancy)
Best Couple- Mick and Linda.
Best Family- The Carters.
Best Writer- Daran Little.
Character of the Year- I know I said he was overused, but I'm going with Mick due to how much DD surprised me and how well the character has slotted in.
Dramatic Performance of the Year- Kellie Bright (Linda)
Scene of the Year- 1. Ian told Lucy is dead. 2. Stacey/Linda kitchen scene. 3. Johnny comes out to Mick.
Line of the Year- "It's kettle."
Most Shocking Moment of the Year- Jane returning early in the year.
Mark 2014 out of 10- 7 or 8, but I'll go with 8 for the recent Christmas and its aftermath episodes.

I appreciate you doing this, must have taken a lot of work.
