We had just few new channels which were BT advert channel, BT Sports extra, Sky Sports two channels and Sony e and we had few software updates and few freeview channels and reshuffle that cleared space for 100 more internet channels from BT/Talk Talk boxes.
BT has had a network update too in late summer to allow more traffic ...

Youview has had extra players added like UKTV play, Quest and Netflix ( BT was naughty in trying to say they were bring Netflix when it was Humax )

We also had news that PlusNet were testing to bring TV, yet and year down the line and yet no more news to when or if ?

We had news that a £billions of BT money will be spent on buying up EE ( Mobile phone and broadband/TV box systems ) So will this mean BT loose any view into bring a better service, to bring it close to number of channels that Talk Talk has ??

Or will the EE take over mean that BT goes to just adding play services that EE has?

I don't think talk talk have many extra channels I would ever want (possibly a couple of the uktv channels and a couple of CBS/discovery). Other than that all the sky channels are likely to come via the rumoured NOWTV update. So I would only like to see maybe a couple of extra channels and some more hd versions to make bt complete this year.

P.s. Netflix was youview, nothing to do with humax, and bt is a big part of youview and I think you will find was a big pusher to actually get Netflix (another reason bt have it and talk talk don't yet).

but there are some channels that BT TV should have, like the rest of the UKTV channels. I find it very odd that they carry some but not others, yet they have them "on demand".

http://www.a516digital.com/p/freevie...l-listing.html is a list of BT / TalkTalk YV channels that might be useful to make a comparison.

I to as I have said else where would like the rest of the UK TV channels come to BT and maybe a few more from Discovery.
Apart from that I dont really what many other extra channels on BT.
The other Sky channels I can live without for it would mean a big increse in the monthly cost.

I very rarely watch live / linear channels.

The main reason we got BT (Vision) was for the on-demand players etc. That changed to YouView recently and now have to pay more for the on-demand stuff and channels that probably wont be watched.

I expect I will cancel the TV part of the contract and just keep Netflix. Would that allow me to use BT Box Office if I wanted PPV?

Also I would like to see more players / apps added. Something like:

Red Bull TV
TED Talks
Planet Knowledge
NASA TV
Digital Theatre
YouTube
EuroNews (in every language)

All of the above are available on other Smart TV platforms.

BT executive office told me last month that there's new channels coming soon, but soon could potentially be years, who knows, any music channels are unlikely also because I asked for a few more and apparently no one has ever asked them for music channels before (really???)

I hope so. I'd like to see sky one and sky living but they are a pipe dream.

Eden, home, and good food should come to the platform rounding out the UKTV channels.

Handy special offer at the moment for new BT TV customers and upograders to Infinity, 12 months of TV Entertainment channels for the price if TV Essential i.e. £5 a month. Until April, saves £2.50/month.

So I bit. Ordered the Youview & BT Entertainment Monday morning this week, box arrived Wednesday (BT/Humax 2100), opened the box at 4:15pm on Wednesday, had it all connected up within 10 minutes and everything updated 10 minutes after that. Very impressed with the box and kit, it makes my Sky box look huge, old and ugly, and works very well. It's small and neat enough to sit it on my TV set table infront of it and is barely even noticeable! This is the smoothest easiest update I've ever had for any piece of TV gear in my life, and I've had a few!

The Internet channels were due for activation "up to 23:59 on Thursday" but in fact activated at 2 am on Thursday, this is also impressive.

I am impressed by the SD Internet channel quality compared to equivalent channels on Sky Satellite - they are all IMO slightly better, certainly smoother and less blocky on difficult scenes, a vindication for the use of 3Mbps h.264 encoding.

All in all, it's 10 out of 10 for BT this week and I never thought I'd ever be able to say that! All we need now (back on topic) are more Internet channels... they can stick the lot on there as far as I am concerned!

Yes BT Youview is an easy system to put in to your home as long as you have phone line and you have Freeview too as the Number of Internet channels ( BT channels ) are good but not as good as they should ....
Yes BT does not charge for your box to record shows like Sky and packages are cheaper and you have a choice to switch them on for a month at a time unlike sky.
BT along with Talk Talk did manage to get Freeview to have EPG move to free 100 more spaces but that was done over six months ago and no sign of any channels ???

looking forward to double the number of channels this year on BT if they really mean to be a TV platform on top of phones and internet services.

Spare EPG as of Wednesday 24th February 2015 …
399 to 400 = 100
470 = 1
492 to 500= 8
515 to 520= 5
523=1
528 =1
529 =1
541 to 554 =13
564 to 599 = 35

BT use of EPG = 63
SD = 9 Kids = 11 movies = 8 Sports = 19 Mixed = 47
HD = 5 Sports = 11 Mixed = 16 channels

Talk Talk use of EPG =113
SD = 8 Kids = 11 movies = 9 Sports = Mixed = 74 = 113
HD = 0

So after the Freeview move to clear EPG in giving extra 100 both companies have used none of them in over 4 months

I think bt got to obsessed with sport, they can't compete at present with sky as a platform on sport but they could easily compete on the additional channels such as the discovery channels etc. I for one could live without the likes of sky one but some additional such as Eden etc would be great.

Sadly BT has dropped any new TV services for customers in 2015 has there is no news of testing.
The 100 new EPG space that has been clear for five months are still clear sadly, should Freeview take them back to use them self as they are still adding channels were space is made on muxes and tech allows?
Even testing by sister company PlusNet has stopped any news coming out about if they have gave up on having a TV service.
So all the spending that BT has done has dried up any hope that customers will get any new services this year or ever ???

Has anyone got any news at all???

Do you think they are holding back drip feeding new channels for a Big Bang approach along with a bit of a price hike, but special offers for the first 6 months, to compete even more heavily with Sky? Especially now Sky have announced yet another price hike (possibly 2)

Well both Sky & Virgin have put there prices up but BT did theirs in December so I do not think BT could bring another round of prices changes so close to the last and I feel that all people who have a TV. Broadband, Telephone package are get very upset that they get into a package deal at set price and within a year that deal becomes higher priced yet they see deals all the time for new customers.....
BT has to bring more channels soon, if they wish to be a main player in the four services package communications companies like Virgin as Sky buys into a mobile phone system and so does BT with EE which has a broadband and phone line with TV services.

So BT may have Summer push with a number of channels or hold on to autumn TV season.
BUT I feel that other reason that BT is not putting out more TV to customers is that is just no bandwidth in the UK for more TV by Internet without new networks as BT by law has allow others to use the network at a price and with so many Internet TV play out systems now in the UK ??

There's plenty of capacity for TV in BT's fibre networks, because they are using multicast not the bandwidth-hungry unicast as used for streaming. The reason nothing much is happening right now may be because they are gearing up for big bundle pushes in the Autumn when they start broadcasting their expensive Champions League matches.

We know much of this from yesterday's new BT Mobile news (a service rented on the back of EE) and the release also mentioned that some matches will be broadcast in UHD via fibre, i.e. BT Youview, which should be veeeelly intellesting!

I would welcome new channels on BT but I have said elsewhere im not to bothered about the likes of Sky One or that as that could bump up the price and I happy with a pirce that cheaper than Sky and the others
We already pay a little more for Infinity and phone line.
I do agree with the above post that most deals and offers seem to be for new customers and not the existing ones like.

So BT are to close there BT film/TV box sets this summer after they stopped offering the service to new customers a good few months ago.
BT need to start thinking on improving there service for people that don't watch a lot of sport or they may start to lose some of there TV customers.

That makes sense to me. There is no need to have so many different providers of the same films and box sets. Netflix is the dominant force, and BT would not be able to realistically challenge them. I have Netflix now, and see little point in having the BT films & box sets option.

Having BT Sport as their unique selling point, alongside "big name apps" such as Netflix and all the UK players, I think the BT Youview offering is pretty good. What else would you want? Perhaps offering other on-demand "players"?

Would like to see the rest of the TV entertainment channels added to the BT extra catch up player service.
I also use Netflix and find it good.
I do agree that Youview is not that bad a service,
I also use the Youview app on my phone from time to time to record to the box

I've just moved to BT TV, and it's not inspiring to say the least. It does lack a number of channels, so the chances of me sticking with it over and above the 12 month contract is minimal unless it ups its channel selection

If I wanted Movies, I woudn't go with BT

Sky Movies - No HD - £13.50 per month.
Sky Movies - Now TV - 720p HD - £9.99 per month.

Sports - well, it's a tough choice.
Sky Sports 1 / 2 - No HD - £22 per month.
Sky Sports 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / F1 / News - Now TV 720p HD - £43 per month.

Ok, not a great comparison, but It's double the price for more channels, and a better quality picture on the sports (calculation of £10 per week for passes, which you can get from Currys).
Now, will I actually watch sports (F1 and Cricket, then NFL during the winter), every week? Probably not, so I would only do it maybe 2 weeks and an extra day, so i'd be around the same price, and have more tv channels...

Now onto the TV selection. It just really lacks any substance on HD channels, get a deal to get E4 HD, and it improves (but yeah, sky have a deal with that one!)
Sky One / Sky Living would put it more on par with TalkTalk but would it increase the price? Maybe, but I don't want any price increases just because of sport...

It's an odd tv service, but it'll do for now...

But you knew all the above before signing up for BT TV so what's the problem?

Depending on what combination of channels you "must have" you can either save money with BT TV or with Sky TV, free choice. Or do as I will be doing, have BT TV with its much lower entry point, and use Now TV occasionally for other stuff. But if you cancel in 12 months time you will have a nice free to air Youview PVR to keep and record on... unlike with Sky.

Incidentally, the reason why Sky Movies and Sky Sports is only SD is because that's all Sky will agree to so blame them for that. Same with only SS1 & 2. But on the other hand, BT TV Internet channels like those are better quality than satellite and terrestrial SD, and Now TV HD is poorer quality than satellite and terrestrial HD. Swings and roundabouts, plenty of choice, it's all good!

To be fair BT don't allow Sky to wholesale its BT Sports channels do they ? So its not all one way traffic is it.

Not this old reposte again. If Sky WERE allowed to wholesale BT Sports, what price do you think they would charge their customers? Bear in mind this is Sky we are talking about...
