Suzi & Keo Jive to Kids in America (Kim Wilde): 6+6+7+6 = 25/40
Len: Now hold my gaze, my girl, that right there was how to start a show! What I liked about that Jive is that there was no fretting and no sweating, you went into it all guns blazing, with a no-holds-barred attitude and trust me, that really worked for you. Perhaps of course you could have had a sharper flicking action once you got those legs going, or other small little details like that, you know, but considering you’ve just gone from learning a dance in three weeks to having to learn one in just a week, I think you did a jolly good job.
Ben & Anya Tango to Objection (Tango) (Shakira): 7+7+7+7 = 28/40
Bruno: Bennn, tempting, teasing, seducing, and I quite liked the dance too. No, you knew what you wanted from Anya, and by god did she give it to you! I felt like running up there and putting up a modesty screen on the dancefloor halfway through. But yes, so much swagger, so much style, so much raw passion. The footwork was wonderful, your timing was sharper than Craig’s tongue, and although your posture got a slight bit iffy towards the end of the dance, it was still a really great Tango. I’m off for a cold shower.
Sheila & Pasha Salsa to Hung Up (Madonna): 3+5+5+5 = 18/40
Craig: ‘Oh dear’ is all I have to say to that, darling. It really wasn’t much of a Salsa at all, although I think Pasha may have done a couple of steps in between whatever those disco moves of yours were. Saying that, I’m surprised you managed to dance any steps at all considering your eye line was well down at the level of Pasha’s chest throughout. We’ve all been tempted but have a dash of professionalism, darling. Other than that, it was very messy, it was careless, and I would say that it looks as if Latin isn’t your forte but judging by last week, Ballroom isn’t either… I’m worried.
Hannah & Tristan Foxtrot to Neon Rainbow (The Box Tops): 7+8+8+8 = 31/40
Darcey: Oh, Hannah, once again that was sublime from you. I love that you took a bit of a subtle approach with it at the beginning, you didn’t go over the top, you know, it was very cute and sweet and I think that sums you up as a pairing. When you got into hold, your frame and positioning was so good, really. A little more of that would have been even better, I think, but I understand that with the storyline you were going with how that would make a difference to the choreography, yeah. Still, you can't deny that this was another wonderful dance of yours.
James & Kristina Cha-Cha-Cha to Shut Up and Drive (Rihanna): 1+4+3+3 = 11/40
Craig: I genuinely have nothing positive to say about that…
that. James, you put absolutely no effort whatsoever into it, it was entirely Kristina’s work, really. In fact, I’d be more confident about claiming that you didn’t even move once if I’d been paying more attention – I could only watch it in small doses, it genuinely was that horrific, darling. And I’m being blunt because if you’re going to do well in this competition, then the least you could do is to make the effort and learn the routine. Otherwise, I’m not sure what the point of you being here is. Sorry, James.
Monica & Anton Waltz to Wide River to Cross (Diana Krall): 4+6+7+6 = 23/40
Len: You see, Monica, I had an inkling last week that you’d be able to come back from that Cha-Cha fighting. And guess what, that’s exactly what you did! Look, that’s not to say that it was without its issues as a dance, you know, you could have been a bit straighter in your posture, your shoulders were a bit hunched in for my liking, and all these things, but you looked so much more relaxed out there tonight that it’s almost like a miracle. Oh, and one more thing – that contra check of yours? Almost perfect, and that’s no joke. Anton’s been working you hard, I can tell.
Chris & Katya Tango to Maps (Maroon 5): 6+7+6+7 = 26/40
Darcey: What a strong dance, Chris! You were so in the mode of it during the whole thing, and for week two that’s really impressive. One incy wincy thing, though, I’d love you to lift your body upwards a touch, yeah, just to create that proper stalking action of the Tango. It’s because your bum was sticking out just a bit, not that I was watching that, no, no, I wasn’t, honestly! Don’t be so crude! But yes, I would like for your bum to be slightly less distracting, I’m sure Len will agree. Otherwise, a fantastic Tango that has set you on the right path in my eyes.
Ann & Kevin Cha-Cha-Cha to Short Shorts (Royal Teens): 4+5+5+5 = 19/40
Bruno: Oh Ann, you foxy devil! I never knew you had such a kinky taste in fashion. We should trade wardrobes sometime. And, apart from the sight of Kevin’s pasty legs in those shorts which I’m sure there’s something against in the Bible, that wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Okay, that’s not a particularly positive thing to start with and I‘ve good reason, you know, because the footwork was a bit heavy and it never really went over a couple of miles per hour speed-wise, but all things considering, I don’t think it was too shabby an effort, no. Ignoring Kevin’s shorts, that is.
Adil & Janette Foxtrot to Penny Lane (The Beatles): 5+6+5+5 = 21/40
Len: Adil, my son. As far as I’m concerned, the Foxtrot should be like a breezy river trip on a cool summer’s day, you know. This one got dangerously close to there being a man overboard, if I’m honest – you tend to tense up when there’s a sequence of steps ahead, like you’re struggling to remember what’s ahead, and then you go into panic mode. Going into panic mode is where everything goes out the window, and while you just about managed to keep it together, I’d love to have seen that dance without the nerves, because I know you’ve got it in you.
Boris & Natalie Waltz to The New Fever Waltz (Elton John): 6+6+6+6 = 24/40
Craig: You’re certainly much more watchable in the Ballroom dances than you are in the Latin, darling, there are no doubts on that one. And this could have really been something special had you not started on the wrong foot up on the steps there, which kind of threw you originally and did affect how you danced the rest of it, but I admire how you managed to get back on track and deliver something quite good indeed. Plus, I loved the whole classic Viennese ballroom vibe to this, you definitely showed an heir on class. More so than last week, at least.
Sarah-Jane & Aljaz Foxtrot to Ready for the Good Life (Paloma Faith): 7+7+7+8 = 29/40
Darcey: I’m quite jealous, I think, being fed grapes by Aljaz at the beginning there! But luckily you won be back over with your beautiful, beautiful Ballroom technique, that was one gorgeous number Sarah. You managed to hold that frame all the way through, which is impressive considering that it becomes a real pain on the arms after a while. I would know. But yes, other than one slight wobble in the corner there that I’m sure we can skip over, it was a Foxtrot as golden, as glamorous and as gorgeous as you are yourself tonight.
Kirsty & Brendan Salsa to These Days (Take That): 3+6+7+6 = 22/40
Len: What’s that Craig barking on about now? Honestly, he’s like an endless monologue of rubbish, that boy. That Salsa was nothing but fun, fun and more fun, Kirsty, and personally, I couldn’t have asked for much more from you. I could tell that you weren’t taking yourself as seriously as other people have done and you were just going out there to have a good old knees up. So yes, it wasn’t as good as your Waltz, but we can’t all be good at everything. What I liked is that you had a crack, and as far as I could see, it was a rather good crack.
Jessica & Trent Foxtrot to I Believe in You (Abbey Road Version) (Kylie Minogue): 8+8+8+9 = 33/40
Craig: Safe to say that was one of, if not
the highlight of the evening, darling. It was an incredibly unique take on a dance we’ve known for so long, which is certainly a risky thing for you to have done, but it worked to great effect. It was serene, it was balletic, it was moving and it told a story between two people, which is what a dance should do. If you’d pointed your feet a little more during the swivels, then my mark would have been even higher than it will be. I hope that you manage to apply this level or something similar to your Latin routines as if so, you could be quite the dancer.
Alvin & Iveta Cha-Cha-Cha to Uptown Funk (Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars): 4+7+7+7 = 25/40
Bruno: Bonkers isn’t the word! My god, Alvin, it was quite possibly the craziest Cha-Cha-Cha I think I’ve ever seen on this show. You chucked the whole kitchen sink and a kettle on the side into it, and I still don’t know what went on but I think I enjoyed it! Well, of course I did, it was as camp as Christmas. Half of the moves I wouldn’t even recognise as dancing, more as some form of seizure, but as I said, I really enjoyed it and everyone in the room seems to be on their feet so either it was so bad that they’re in a hurry to leave or it was so good that they’re giving it a standing ovation. I think it’s the latter. Probably.
Dan & Gordana Jive to Good Girls (5 Second of Summer): 6+7+6+7 = 26/40
Darcey: Oh, I like a bad boy, Dan! Oh, don’t, don’t, I’m married. Honestly. This show. But yes, you look very suave and cool in that little uniform of yours. I could squeeze those cheeks all night long! Oh, not like that, you filthy lot. Oh, the dancing was very good, yes! If I’m being incredibly fussy, which I’m allowed to be because you’re such a good dancer, you know, I would pick you up on your lack of spring when doing the kicks and flicks – if you’d managed to get that down, who knows just how good this could have been! Anyway, this was a really fun dance to round off what for me has been a really fun night.
