Thanks for your post. Not sure why gigabit didn't understand my posts and instead started spewing any old rubbish at me.

You are correct as well that LTE isn't "true 4G". Even though it is classed as 4G haha.

LTE-Advanced would be known as "true 4G". Also WiMAX as well but who the hell cares about WiMAX.

Get an O2 phone and install TuGo.. Calls in and out over 4G if you want! Works great!

I thought it was AT&T who did this as they were able to claim their HSPA+ / DC-HSPA network was similar in throughput to the prototype LTE network from Verizon. T-mobile had no choice but to copy AT&T's branding as the much smaller network, when they were also rolling out DC-HSPA+.

But then he does think O2 has a top class 3G network .

AT&T as I understand did start to use the term, however this changed when they started rolling out LTE to its major markets.

T-Mobile USA is the only operator in North America that still terms DC-HSPA as 4G. I know operators in the Canadian market certainly didn't follow suit.

Your battery life will not improve forcing it to 2g over 3g.

Disabling data altogether will give you the biggest boost.

AT&T are still doing it, they have 4G and 4G-LTE networks. T-Mobile is the same. Yes, it was only the US GSM carriers that did this. I think the iPhone 4S was the cause :-/

viz:
Quote:
“With the introduction of 4G LTE, AT&T offers two layers of network technology that deliver 4G speeds for smartphone customers: LTE and HSPA+.”

Quote:
“While our 4G (HSPA+) network is faster than 3G speeds, 4G LTE enables you to stream video, download apps, send and receive email, and more, even faster.”
