Is it inappropriate now to play Christmas songs?
Radio stations stop playing them after Christmas Day, is it really wrong to have Yuletide tunes still being played in New Year?

No and even if it was, if you want to play them, who cares?

Amongst others, I'm still playing "The Christmas Song" on my electric piano now and again. I start in September just to wind up my wife, as she doesn't want to be reminded about all the work Christmas entails for wives..
If it's a good tune, sung or played well, then I don't mind when it's heard, beats some of the rubbishy alternatives. |

I normally play them up until the 6th January when the festive period officially ends.
However there is a few certain Christmas songs I listen to all year round. |

I personally find it weird to listen to or play them or Boxing Day, but that's just me. I probably wouldn't mind hearing them til after New Year if they weren't rammed down our throats from November.

Sad that some people feel the need to ask permission to play songs regardless of the time of year.
What are you worried about? Who do you think is going to complain? Tell you what, go for broke and really upset people and play THIS... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOMwxANznS0 |

Really, to most, it all ends tomorrow with the taking down of the decs, but I untick all the Christmas songs on my ipod on Boxing day. It's like watching porn AFTER sex.

I would suggest only the religious bother with the 12 days stuff. And we know they are a minority.

Play what you want when you want! It's in your house, right?
Personally, I've played no Christmas music this year. I'm also uncomfortable because my husband and kids over ruled my "decorations down on the 28th" rule. I like my house clean and organized for the new year. Is it ironic I'm the only one at home today with the damn decorations still up? |

I find that after Boxing Day I just stop playing them constantly. It just happens. Its not quite the same after Christmas Day. But I would say it is still ok until January 6th. After that I don't want to hear any until December 1st. I do find that when December arrives and I start playing them it doesn't seem like 11 months since I last heard them.

Christmas songs are rammed down our throats from mid November as has already been pointed out. Therefore, I don't want to hear any more Christmas songs after the 25th

On radio I think they should be played up until NYE. A lot of us are still on our holidays and it's almost indecent the way they shove Christmas at us for weeks and then .. when it actually gets here .. move on to something else by Boxing Day. Like someone has thrown a switch ... Christmas is over!!

It's extremely bad luck to take down xmas decorations before 6th January.
It is definitely the norm here for people to leave their decorations up until after that day has passed. |

Sorry, but I'm going to disagree. In fact could someone do a poll. Most people I deal with have taken them down between boxing day and now. There is no more holiday. No more presents. Nothing to celebrate. Next occasion is bloody Valentine's Day

well it's now Jan 3rd and not a single Christmas tree has appeared outside my block for the council to take away (soon there will be half a dozen left there) and I still see trees and lights up in houses along this street and trees are still up in nearby offices, cafes and shops, So looks like Jan 6th is still when most people take it all down.

I stop listening to Xmas songs usually just before Xmas Eve. That seems about right to me
![]() Anyway, I seem to remember reading that Slade performed Merry Christmas Everybody in glorious sunshine at the Reading Festival in 1980
