I miss her loads. Was such a shame they killed her off. However I think Wendy Richard (Pauline) left a much bigger gap when she left in 2006. To me it felt like the show restarted again from scratch in 2007 after her death.

She was a great character, but everyone leaves.

I still think the damage of the baby swap on this day was deeper and the repercussions were far reaching.

Agreed - although killing Pat was an absolute travesty, I did think the thread was going to be about the baby swap

Let's be honest, Pat left what was an awful show... In her last few months, I didn't even care about Pat because I barely watched the show! It just goes to prove that even Pat couldn't save the mess that Kirkwood had made!

I'm not saying Pat isn't great, she's ****ing legendary! But I think Peggy, Stacey and Ronnie's departure made the show boring... Pat's departure changed the show, but I think Peggy, Stacey and Ronnie's departure made a bigger impact if that makes sense? I'm not saying their better, but them 3 left quite a healthy show, whereas Pat left a poor show!

I'm so glad to have Stacey and Peggy back now! I hope one day Peggy returns full with Grant full time! I will always miss Pat though! I could cry over her death!

Do people miss Pat as much now the shows in a healthier position/getting itself back?

Pat has left a gaping hole in EastEnders i can't believe it is 3 years ago today since she died it only feels like yesterday, EastEnders overall though is in a much better place than it was when Pat died, was such a shame she was killed off as no doubt Pam St. Clement would of comeback and played Pat again. Killing off Pat was Kirkwood's biggest mistake in his tenure as EastEnders boss.

I think killing Pat off along with killing Kathy and Angie were some of the biggest mistakes the show has ever made

It beggars belief that Pat was killed, yet evil shrieking blonde Mitchell creature was allowed to live

She was a great character, but everyone leaves.
Not everyone had spent over 25 years (practically the show's entire lifetime up to that point) as a regular fixture. Pat also had Walford history stretching back long before the series itself even began. I would agree characters come and go but there's something to be said for long term characters like Pat, Pauline (an even bigger loss as the show itself rebooted itself the year she left), Ian, Dot, Sharon and Phil. In a series that's always had trouble holding onto it's biggest characters it was a foolish decision to write Pat off the canvas permanently.

What I loved most about Pat as a character is she could share a scene with any character and it would always be a joy to watch (see what I did there ). Don't get me wrong I like Dot and I liked Pauline and Peggy, but Pat was always the far superior character.

For me personally, Pam St Clement was one of the best actresses to appear on the show.

Pat was one of the few characters who could have scenes with any other character and it not come off forced or bizarre. She was a real salt of the earth type. Dot, Pauline and Peggy always had an air of superiority about them whereas Pat was no frills. I think Pauline was a more central character for the show than Pat but in a different way Pat ended up becoming just as important as the years went by. She was the last of a rare breed

Pretty much a perfect summing up and I cant really see any current female character reaching her stature no matter how long they stay-Certainly not Saint Jane or the inconsistent moraliser Sonia.

Im sure others overtime could become pretty fantastic assets as long term characters like Carol ,Linda or Denise for example but to me the only one equal in stature to Pat but who is quite different from her in someways is Sharon.

Getting actors and characters to last and stay as long as Pat AND be worthy of the description one of the greats is quite difficult which is why killing of a rare gem like Pat was very foolish of Mr Kirkwood.

I really do miss Pat but I reckon that if she had stayed then the 30th would have been Pats farewell...
