Viewing my Sky HD box in another room
I have a basic sky subscription but would really value being able to watch what is recorded on the box in another room. I would be happy to pay sky multi room if it gave the option of being to watch what's recorded on the 2nd box but I don't think it is?
Therefore, what is the best way to wireless send the HD quality footage from the box in one room to another? I can't run a coax or similar cable form one box to the other due to location. Also, would I be able to use the remote features in the new room? The box is HD and 3 months old. Thanks for your help. |

Wireless HD senders are not cheap. They cost over £200 and usually have about a 30 metre range. They normally include an IR receiver so you can use the remote functions. This is a fairly typical model.

Btw OP, the sky "multi room" doesn't provide what your looking for. Multi room is just the precence of 1 or more additional sky boxes each working on their own (not sharing recordings).

Thanks for that Tomvoxx.
That reason I was to send the hdmi signal is because I want to watch recordings on the sky hd box. I realise that multi room cannot do this. If you could recommend a few suggestions for the signal senders I'd appreciate it. I notice that the reviews for the SLX gold are not very good. Thanks. |

There are several options here
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_...i%2Cnull%2C329 Don't forget you will also need a HDMI splitter if you want to be able to watch Sky on the TV next to the box as well. Unless that is you fancy plugging and unplugging leads every time you want to use the extender. |

I don't know if that's some combination of the display devices (two TVs, one via a home theatre system) or what, but it's still annoying to come downstairs every so often to fix it |

Thanks for that guys. Can anyone recommend a system that they are pleased with and works without any issues/glitches?
Thanks again. |

This may not be the answer you want to hear, lateral thinking suggests in the longer term you may have to change your TV provider to someone like EE or Virgin Media.

If sky hd box has scart/av output and tv scart/av, you could use a normal video sender (very cheap) but you would only get SD definition,
You could also buy a slingbox 500 (about £200 as well) which accepts HDMI input, and converts to a wifi signal. Then using an app on a mobile, you can cast this to a TV with a chromecast. You can also change channel etc. Word of caution: slingbox does not always work with all hdmi input due to copyright issues. Slingbox site recommends you also connect any source box using component (not composit/av) leads as well as HDMI. I am pretty certain sky hd box will have component output as well as HDMI. According to following, if you connect via component from box to slingbox, you still retain HD definition. Not sure how that works, as component is an analogue source. http://support-worldwide.slingbox.co...B-2000491.html Note: I am not even sure HDMI video senders work in all cases. At least slingbox will always work even if only in SD, and you can watch on phone, tablet etc anywhere in world. Only certain option afaik is a long hdmi cable! Then changing channels remotely is (admittedly fairly simple) challenge to solve. |

Sky boxes haven't had component out for a very long time.
Looks like no easy hd solution then |

you can buy an hdmi to component converter though. http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-revi...owViewpoints=1 some mixed reviews but generally seems to work, setup sky - hdmi out ---> converter hdmi in converter component out ---> sling box component in. converter is quite pricey though at £56. Not sure if extra resolution is worth over £250 investment compared with £30 for a normal SD videosender though! |

Thanks guys. How are you suggesting changing channel? Using a magic eye or similar? If so, is there a way to get this to another room without wires?
Thanks |

Thanks At least that is with any number of SD video senders I've looked at. Not sure about HD versions but can't see any reason why a similar facility shouldn't exist on those as well. The Sky magic eye devices need a cable connection. They connect to the RF 2 out (or a separate dongle on newer boxes) and take power from the RF out as well as feed the remote signals back down the cable to the box over the same cable. |

Several options available depending on your chosen solution
1. If you go for a slingbox solution, remote control is available through app. 2. If you go for a video sender (HDMI or scart/av), they will normally have remote control as part of the package. 3. You could go for a sky magic eye type of solution, but this depends on how you house is wired to an extent. 4. If you went for a long cable (say), then the following is great - works over wifi and you use phone as the remote (I think a hand remote is supplied as well). This will work just about any system. Not that cheap but certainly a rolls-royce solution. You need a fairly good wifi signal in room you have tv as well as room with sky box. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&k...l_3lcsp0aorh_b 5. Another good cheap solution is a remote extender. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Marmitek-Pow...hannel+changer I am sure there are others or variants on above. |

Any decent quality HDMI splitter works fine, you MUST ensure that it's HDCP compatible though - I suspect that's why people have problems, buying cheap crappy splitters that aren't HDCP compatible.
If it wasn't HDCP compatible it wouldn't work with Sky at all, rather than have the occasional bad handshake |

A " Powered" hdmi splitter will play sky all day long.
Look for Duronic or Neet on amazon, and I can confirm they work up to 25 metres of HDMI cable. 1 INPUT and 2 OUTPUT is what you need |
