Actually its not the writers decision who gets killed of its the EPs decision. A writer can't kill a character off if the EP hasn't axed them.

Sadly that appears to be true. Maybe he is just being overly cautious because of the reaction to Pat being killed off? No idea.

But the writer who writes an episode cant just kill off a character if the EP hasn't axed them and wants to keep them.
