Considering leaving Three for EE

So my SIM-Only contract with Three runs out this month and I'm thinking of going back to EE. I use about 2000 minutes a month and I can use around 5-6GB of data a month. I'm currently on the One Plan for £15 but I'm not entirely satisfied by Three lately.

I live in a rural area so I do miss the 2G data backup that EE has when I'm trying to send a quick email. I also have found Three's 3G slower than EE (even though they seem to share the same mast). Equally EE has more 4G in the area I work.

But I'm not sure whether this is going to be a cost effective move. I'm very close to hitting the 5GB mark and at the moment EE are charging £21.99 for that. I don't mind paying this but it doesn't give me much room to maneuver if I exceed 5gb.

Any thoughts?

You spend 30+ hours a month on the phone

That's some achievement

It does make you wonder how I find time to use data as well...

Stick with Three and AYCE.

4G or not, a little faster or slower, what's the issue eh.... You will simply not find that on EE at your current or a much higher price....

Other than his price plan no longer being allowed and the equivalent new plan will cost him £25/£28 when Three force him to move.

So not quite as simple as saying "stay with what you have".

You'll always get notice, and if you sign up to a fixed contract then it works both ways. It's fixed for both parties.

My opinion is that EE is miles ahead of three, it has 2G support and much faster performance.

I'm moving the second my minimum term is over. Hoping to get a deal like my missus.

Unlimited texts, mins and 5GB of data for 21.99 a month, with the first 6 months half price (12 month plan).

Why have you quoted my post? I don't see much relevance between what I said and what you have answered as I haven't said anything about notice.

I would agree.

I found EE's 4G faster and 4G coverage more extensive but it tends to switch to 2G in some places I use whereas Three maintains usable 3G. I also don't like the fact that EE don't provide an option to cap out of allowance spend so its easy to fall foul of unsolicited pay for it or premium text scams.

Honestly i'm in a similar boat, I like Three but with them vastly raising prices from what I am currently paying It's hard not to want to move to EE for better 4G coverage native WiFi Calling [Very soon] more capacity due to them having more spectrum. 2G backup is still very nice in some areas as well plus Orange 3G masts.

There is some sort of data cap, right?

The plans are changing, and it's the lack of 2G data backup which is frustrating.

I just cancelled my three sim and wow the live chat was drawn out.

EE data stops once the allowance is used unless you buy more if that what you mean by data cap. The out of allowance spend cap I'm referring to that Three offers prevents charges to your account due to unsolicited scams i.e . premium rate text messages, weblink payforit scams etc.

Funny I am considering leaving EE for Three having experienced a drop in performance of the 3G network.

The coverage has got worse where I work due to I expect their consolidation of their Orange and T-Mobile base stations.

My Phone on Three seems to be better in the same location.

Each to his/her own.

Are you sure? Three seem to say otherwise.

Quote:
“How to stop using Premium Rate Services.

We can put a block on calls to all 09 numbers from your 3 mobile. Call 3 customer services on 333 – free if you call from within the UK on your 3 mobile. Or dial 0333 300 3333 from any other phone (standard call rate applies).

Sorry, but at the moment, we can’t bar access to all premium rate Shortcodes on 3. What we do, however, automatically – for everyone that hasn’t proved that they are over 18 – is stop any pictures or video content being sent to your mobile that’s classed as being 18 or over against the Independent Mobile Classification framework. This includes premium rate adult visual content available through a Shortcode”

Shouldn't be as Three and EE use the same masts for 3G. EE have 2G and 4G separately. It could be local EE fault that doesn't affect Three kit.

I asked the question re premium text and payforit scams on webchat with EE CS. Was told they can't prevent and these would be charged to my account. I'm not sure how it works with premium rate text scam because when I've been scammed in the past (Voda) it was an incoming text. Sort of ting that states send stop to xxx but you're no idea what caused the incoming text.

Re spend cap ON Three the only issues I ever had over the past 2+ years with out allowance spend was a call to a non geo number that slipped though due to a Three system being updated. Three credited the amount without any argument but prior to using Three I'd been stung on several occasions on using Voda.

This is zero spend cap I have active - http://support.three.co.uk/srvs/cgi-...ile:mobileUser

"Information about your spending cap.

We don't offer zero spending caps anymore, since you can get more flexibility with our new control your spend options. But if you joined Three before 18 March 2014, we may have offered you a zero spending cap. This means:

•Once you have used up your minutes and texts in your allowance you won't be able to make any calls or texts from your phone.
• Some numbers are normally charged outside of your call or text allowances, so if you have a zero spending cap, you won't be able to call or text these numbers at all. These include: ◦ most free phone numbers, if you're on a plan bought before 18 March 2014
◦ other numbers starting with 084, 087 or 070 (these are usually car insurance, banks, RAC etc.)
◦ calls to directory enquiries
◦ premium numbers (usually starting with 090), for example, for competitions of reality shows like X Factor
◦ international numbers or texts
◦ texting shortcodes for things like competitions or buying ringtones.

If you currently have a spending cap you have three options:

1.You can keep your account as it currently is.
2. You can go to our zero spending cap.
3. You can take your spending cap off completely.

Once you have a spending cap you can take it off at any time, but won't be able to put it back on again. So that's why we recommend you take some time to decide how you want to manage your spending. You can either choose to limit your service, or choose to take it off so you can still call numbers that aren't included in your allowance like 0845 or 070. We'd prefer you make that choice first before we make any changes to your account.

We can't guarantee that the zero spending cap will always work. For example, it may not work if you use your phone abroad, or if we're carrying out important system maintenance.

Whatever you decide to do, we recommend you keep track of your spending so you know what's included and not included in your monthly allowance. You'll then be able to avoid getting any large unexpected bills. Go to your My3 account either on your phone or computer to do this."

These are the ones I thought you meant, you could still get charged for these on Three, most of the others can be barred by most networks (but none will give a guarantee you still won't get charged).

Like I said I've never had an issue in 2+ year with these on Three despite porting my number from providers that I encountered scam charges. Does EE offer a similar facility to Three's zero spend cap ? If so a link would be good as this is all I could find - http://ee.co.uk/help/safety-and-secu...unwanted-calls

For about the fifth time this past year the transmitter near my work place has gone down - so frustrating it's a 48 hour wait for it to be fixed.

That's interesting, I've just been on the live chat for Three to get the PAC for my wife's number and had the opposite - it was short and curt to the point of being rude. No attempt to keep me, no 'is there anything else I can help with' just a 'I will generate the PAC' followed by the code and then they ended the chat before I could respond to say thank you.

Mind you, it was easier than having to jump through all the hoops on the phone with a retentions team who just don't want to let go

Lucky you didn't have a contract with Comcast!
